Can you recommend a UK mobile phone contract to me?

May 2, 2007 7:35pm CST
I don't use my phone often but at the moment I am putting in between 10 and 20 pound in my pay as you go and just feel like I am constantly curbing my calling. I only phone a handful of people but my best friend is on O2 and I think he has minutes to anyone and my mum is on Orange and has minutes to anyone. I quite like the convience of text and I heard the other day that there is someone who is giving £100 in your bank when you sign up. But I didn't here who it was. Can anyone recommend any contract or a particular phone or even if I am best ina store or on the net. Thank you very much. Even telling me what network you are on and where your call centre is would be of help. Thank you

Probably a bit late for you now, but if you try some comparison websites like Kelko (not just for mobile phones but for almost anything) then you should get a choice of what is the best for you. I'm on on Orange Contract but changed to Orange's Virgin Tarriff (I don't know if they still allow this), but I get charged 15p/minute for first 3 minutes then 5p/minute after this for calls made daily (to landlines or other Orange phones). I usually spend around 75p-£3.00 per month and get a bill every month so I don't need to top up. As you spend a lot of time on your computer why not make calls from there as well, Skype to Skype calls are totally free, I use Voipcheap as well (at http://www.voipcheap.co.uk ) cost to u.k. landline is 1p/minute at all times (and sometimes totally free) cost to text is 2.4p, mobiles 10p/minute. For an extra 5p per call you can get the calls to ring your home phone first then connect to the phone you are calling to. If you deposit £10 with them then you can sometimes get free phone calls to a number of countries, (which sometimes includes U.K.). You get 120 days of using this then you need to top up to continue using any free calls that are available, but you don't lose any money that is in credit. You can also pay by Paypal to top up if required. Voipcheap to Voipcheap is also free as well.

Claire, I pay £30 a month to Orange, a lot you may think but I get more minutes than I use, insurance, more texts than I use and free broadband wireless internet all the best urban

Do you have Vodafone in the UK? I got one at Christmas, and I get a free 10 euro every month of credit, plus 300 free webtexts which is really handy. I never have manged to get through all ten in a month, and I don't have to pay any subscription fee.
