Are advertisements only for the sake of money minting or a creativity enhancer?

Every corner of the street, every newspaper, and all morms of media, there is one thing in common.....Advertisements. not a big word yet so strong and given so much of importance. It is used by all big and small brands as platform of growth, a step to mint money buy reaching out to the mass. But i feel it enhances, creativity, immaginations. Dont u think so. I have designed about 370 advertisements myself, though not in the world of advertisements or business. Its just curiosity. What do u think? Money or creativity?
