Money for Textbooks?

I don't know about any of you, but I pay a fortune each semester for books. Then at the end of the semester I go to sell them back to either find that they A. are not taking my book back or B. will only give me a small amount back for each one. How do you buy or sell your textbooks? How do you save money?

Now there's an idea, just be careful not to get in trouble for plagiarism

I set up an account on Half.com and sell my textbooks there. I usually make back what I spent on them, which last semester was $300. It's easy to sell there, and they help you pick a price that is fair but will sell quickly. They're owned by ebay, so they're a legitimate website.

That is a very helpful website and something I need to look into.

I'm really planning on trying to buy my textbooks from Amazon or other online sites this year. I'm tired of paying hundreds of dollars for a book that I will use once or twice and that I'll only get $10 out of it. I'm going to buy online to save money and if I need to, I will sell them online again to try and get rid of them. I'd rather get as much as I can and selling them back to the bookstores isn't the place to do it.

If you plan well in advance you can often find discount textbook supply companies that will sell them to you much cheaper, they generally also give you a better return if you sell the book back to them. There is also ebay of course. You can usually sell yours book for more than your college will give you for them, and its usually cheaper to buy the books on there from students who like yourself are trying to get some kind of money back from the books they paid so much for. Hope that helps.

Agreed. I always think about what I could be spending my money on. I'm also annoyed that this year I have 3 tiny books, not even 100 pages to them and they cost most than my big ones! Thankfully my uni was a bit smaller in size so I put up notices in the rooms that I know had classes like mine and on notice boards student rec rooms.

That is what I do sometimes also and I find that there are students who will pay more than the bookstore will.

I am not as fortune as you are with the fair price for books for each semester. I have hard time to buy and to sell books. I have no clue what to do.

I usually get such a late registration date that I have no time to buy them elsewhere (except for the discount store near here). But as far as selling books... usually I go with Ebay for the best returns (sometimes over 100% if I had dropped the class and the book is new and wrapped). Sometimes half.com if I'm desperate.

One good way to save is buy books used. then you can sell them used and you won't lose so much. What ever you do, Do not buy from your college bookstore, they charge a fortune. You need time to search the internet. There are many sites that sell books and what I love to use is campusi.com It gives me the prices on all the sites that I use. Also try selling right before a semester starts that's when everyone is going crazy and buying books at what ever price they see. Good luck and if you want to can even use my promo code at valorebooks.com which is: payless2 this can give you 5% off.

hi i do remember my college days i was the student of architecture so most of the work which was concerned to us was drawing works i hardly spend money on text books i use library books and during exam times we use to ask for help from our seniors and ask them to give us previous years notes and in this way we save money on text books.

Oh yeah textbooks are really expensive. I like to keep mine though because 1.) I suck at keeping my books nice and crisp 2.) I might need them later, they might be useful. Try posting on the school bulletin board that you're selling so and so books because the school buys it back for a very small amount. I think it's better to sell directly to students. Our professors don't require us to have books in all the subjects. sometimes they rely on photocopies. Check out your library, they might have the assigned books in there. My classmates do that, just borrow the book and photocopy the needed chapters and maybe just have it bound later. There's also this organization in our school that lends out textbooks for a really cheap price. You just have to give it back after, I think, but it saves a lot of money. If you don't mind reading doodles-on books. Maybe you know someone, a friend or a relative, who has taken that subject already so you can just borrow theirs...

Hi Abin here, This is a great question that iss related to all the students for higher studies. I find that each textbook costs around 1000's this is really a worse thing. Like you there are many people who have the same question. For people like you i think selling the book is such a loss of money, so i think it is better to keep it with us so that someone related to us will be needing it later, or while you are selling don't sell to the shops instead sell it to students of the upcoming batch i think this is a really good idea because they give sometimes if the book looks good the same price for which you have brought it. Your's, Abindas.
