How do you choose the discussions you read or respond to?

I was just thinking how I pick and choose the discussions I read and respond to and was thinking about it. I will go to the discussions started by my friends, then to new discussion, then to ones that have no responses yet, then discussions started by new users. Sometimes I go to the news heading and see what is listed and start or comment on discussions there. I'll go to my interests and see if someone has posted a discussion that I would jump into. Sometimes it is with a pattern, sometimes I just jump around in a more chaotic method, that is almost random. I may not go to the discussions I have started or responded to everyday, but I do go back and see what is being said after a couple of days. I know that to make money you need to post new discussions, and respond to discussions, but I won't post or respond to something that I am not interested in. I have to say I am enjoying the discussions and interaction I am having with people. I always have been that type in face to face, or discussion boards. Now, how do you choose the discussions you read and respond to?
