why do people smoke?

Why do people smoke even after knowing that they are inviting death?In contrast, why people never go to a haunted place even after knowing that they are inviting death?

i also against smoking..but what can i say, my husband is an addict of it. he's a web designer and he said by smoking can bring inspiration to him?!?! i really can't understand the mind of a smoker.so at least what i can do is ask my husband to stay away from me when he wants to smoke :(
