I set a new goal every year for the amount of books I will read. Usually I go over it. This year my goal is 42, which is a little more than three per month. So far I am up to 12. Not too bad, but a little bit behind. I love to read and I vary my reading material. I read all different genres from historical, inspirational, self help, historical romance, contempory...you name it. What about you?

I totally agree with you. Reading is the best way to learn. I have even read somewhere that reading increases your iq level. Now I don't know if this fact or not. I don't ever remember having my iq tested before, but would be interested to find out. If I didn't have kids then I could probably read about 2 books a week times 52 weeks a year. So I would say about 104 books a year without having kids. But I have two kids that take up a lot of my time, so right now it is probably more like 24 books a year (approx. 2 books a month).

Well, a good question. I read about four books in two weeks. That makes eight in a month. I do read fast and able to borrow books from the library, so that's not a problem to me. But, these days, I found that I'm rereading books that I have read a few years ago as there aren't any new books available in the library.

I also hope that there will be more books in the library for us to borrow.

I agree with you. Reading is very important. How many books can you read in a year? Well it depends what kind of books they are. Technical, medical and specific subject books are oftn packed with detailed procedures and outcomes and it would take a while to absorb and finish reading such books. Other books such as novels and biographies are easier to read. I read as many as four books in a week, depending on the subject.

Not as many as I used to. I still do read, just not as much as when I was working. When I was working I had to do a lot of reading to keep current in my field. And I was often in need of "escape time" reading to relieve the stress of working. So I read a lot of professional texts and a lot of "for fun" fiction. Now I read mostly at bedtime or when on vacation. Other times I read magazines because they can be put down easily and it doesn't take much concentration. I'm getting lazy in my old age! I always make sure that I have at least one novel with me when I leave on vacation. Often I'll try to find fiction that is set in the geographical area I'll be visiting. Actually, my concentration is not as good as it used to be. I'm more easily distracted. So I'm more likely to read fiction than non-fiction. However, I do frequently read non-fiction about spirituality and about Native American Indian culture. So, to answer your question, I'm not sure any more. I used to read at least two books a month. Now I imagine it takes me about a month to finish a book, unless it is so rivoting that I can put it down! I like detective stories and mysteries and sometimes they are VERY interesting, hard to put down. But I'd estimate one book a month. However, I also listen to recorded books while doing other things around the house or driving in the car. So if you count those it more than doubles. I listen to two or three books a month beyond the ones I read.
