My boy was actually walking across the floor with his hands in the holds of his jeans, hanging onto his legs as he walked around, he came off of the carpet of the livingroom, and slipped on the hardwood floor, unable to stop his fall with his hands he hit with his chin, and bit his bottom lip. The blood was literally pouring out of his chin, I calmly called my mom immediatly to have her take him in for stitches (I watched kids and had 4 of them, and she's only 2 houses down from mine). He ended up with 8 stitches . . . How old were you or your child when they got their first stitches. And was it from something as silly as having their hands down their pants...(can you imagine: when he gets older he'll be able to tell the story about "I got my first stitches by having my hands down my pants"

"I got my first stitches by having my hands down my pants." ROFL. Yup, he will get some mileage out of that one! It is great that you are calm and can even find some humor in the situation. Many would have paniced. My three older children never had stitches (miracle I know) but my youngest received his first stitches when he was in kindergarden. He was playing on the playground and fell on a large rock, splitting his knee open. The school didn't even call me or send him for stitches. They didn't even have him go and wash the area!! Miraculously, they got the bleeding stopped and placed a bandage on it. He came home from school and I took one look at it realized that it needed stitches. The doctor who took care of the wound said that he could not believe that my son wasn't sent from the school when it first happened.

Someone should explain to the school how much legal liablity that can create for the school. If they don't watch themselves, and keep doing things like that then they will find themselves on the wrong end of a very expensive lawsuit.

I think I was about the same age, and I ran into the tailgate of the truck, hit right at the bridge of my nose, between my eyes. I still have a little scar, but nothing major. I can not remember it though. I was quite accident prone early on (and still am really) when I was about 2 years old, I fell into a burning fire-pit at a campsite. I've had stitches, my head split a little, and I've sprained some things here and there, nothing ever broke though. I don't know how i'm going to handle any of that with my boys! (:

I ran into a brick wall in gym class, in the 6th grade and got my first stiches in the forehead. I suspect that the story will change over time to something just different enough to make it less embarrasing, but still truthful

Awww poor little guy! I got my first stitches at 3 because I wanted to play airplane and jumped off the chair arm, smashed my fave against the coffee table and needed stitches in my lip... I guess you could say that my first flight was a real crasher

I was 11 or so, and it was even more stupid. My brother was 9 or so back then and fell his bike against me as he was about to go off, making the metal pedals penetrate deep into my flesh ripping my leg open. Bleeding like hell as well and mainly my mom was totally freakin' out because it was on a camping trip, hehe. Even worse at about 10:30 at night. So we had to call the reception asking where the closest doctor was, one lived actually nearby and had a practice room at her house was said lol. Then we ended up in the back of her shed which was designed as some sort of mini operating room, haha. My mom was thinking like omg, where did we belong. Dun remember how many stitches I got in total though, but it was done quite clean in the end looking back at the wound it was.

I am sorry to laugh, but that is nothing, I got my first stitches at age two. I busted my nose on a bridge going over the freeway. That bridge hated me. Every time I went on that bridge it managed to hurt me somehow.

Oh my I would have panicked if that ever happened to my son! He's only 7 Months old as of now but every little bump I get paranoid and hysterical already. I admire you for handling situations like this so well! The only stitches I've gotten was when I was 19 and had a ceserean section :)

Poor kid. I hope he heals fast! :) And yes, my daughter had the liquid stitches last summer. She was 4 when it happened. She was at her Papa's house and they were swinging from what I heard and she fell off and the swing came back and smacked her right in her forehead and they had to rush her in because they told me she had a big gash. By the time she got back home to me, she was all stitched up and looking good. She has a scar though from it. I hate it and I have tried many things to make it fade, but it wont fade! When I was a kid, I was walking on a brick wall and I jumped off and fell, busted my lip and needed stitches, I had to have the wire kind. I lived on soup for a few weeks. And then right after I healed and had them removed, I busted it again and this time on a bike accident... LOL! Does your son have to eat from a straw?

I got my first stitches when I was 27 (I had a c-section) and neither of my kids have had stitches yet. Knock on wood. god forbid my son ever had to, he would pass out from the thought. He has no tolerance for pain. My daughter, I have the feeling, is going to need alot of them, she is both tough and clumsy.

By the way, I am sorry to hear that your son got hurt and needed the stitches. It is kinda manly to have them though, in a sense. It might make him feel tough.

I had my first, and only stitches when I was 8. I was riding my bike . I had just gotten out of my driveway and was going to pass my next door neighbor's house. The boy next door jumoed in front of me, grabbed the handlebars and threw me and my bike to the ground. My chin hit the sidewalk. I ran home screaming in pain. Mom took me to the emergency room. The people there covered my face with a cloth and put 6 stitches in my chin. Mom told them I couldn't close my mouth. The Doctor stuck his fist in my mouth and said there was nothing wrong, probably just a temporary thing. Mom took me home and called our Doctor, as I still couldn't close my mouth. We went to the Doctor's office, Dr. Oberschneider. He talked with a heavy german accent. He took hold of my chin, moved it to the left and asked me "Does it hurt ven I do zis?" I nodded yes. He then moved it to the right and asked me "Does it hurt ven I do zis?" I nodded yes. Voila! He said my jaw was broken and sent us to a specialist for treatment. I had my jaw wired shut for 17 weeks. I had to eat baby food and beef broth for the entire time. To this day I cannot stand to look at baby food. Good thing I don't have any kids, because I don't know if I could have fed them that. I know exactly what it tastes like and I didn't really care for it. PEACE

My son had stitches when he was two years old. He was runing and fell into the china cabinet and cut his forehead. I was right behind him and tried to catch him, but I couldn't. His head was also bleeding all over. We ran with him to the hospital since it was only 1/2 a block away. He is now 15 and he still has a scar. That was the only time he had stitches. I never had stitches except from surgery.

If memory serves me correctly I think Chris was about 2 1/2 He was running in the kitchen and he put his hand through the kitchen window. Took 8 or 10 stitches to close the gash. The only time he cried was the day after when grandma wanted to have a look at it. You would have thought she had asked him to do it again. But if your are talking about hands down your pants I can relate a similar story. Steven was like 15 at the time. Which makes it even funier He had these with a button a fly. Course he was also wearing boxer shorts at the time. It was snowing and blowing snow outside. Darn right miserable weather. At any rate he was coming home from school and because his boxers wouldn't stay closed and he had a button fly His poor little weiner was getting frost bite. LOL So he shoved his hands down his pants to keep himself warm A big gust of wind came along and blew him over. He broke his arm when it happened. Arrived home in agony and took him to the hospital Course I had to tell everyone in emerg about it (used to work there I did) They were laughing their heads Including the DR He getes mad when I tell the story but it is funny Hope your little guy is doing better. Accidents will happen when we least expect them too Wendy
