Best sort for VOIP?

I am computer illiterate when it comes to the technical aspects of it all.
I can turn the computer on, find my various webpages, etc, but when it comes to the technical side of it, I have no idea at all.
I am thinking about getting some sort of thing so I can have VOIP at work, in order to make cheaper calls.
I currently have a cordless/hand held phone, that I would like to keep, so I would like some information on whatever it is I need to plug into the phone line so I can have the broadband internet running, with the phone I currently have.
One thing I was looking at was with "Engin".
They had a 'router?' which plugs into the modem, and then the cordless phone goes into that.
The good thing about that is that I can still get the cheap calls of voip, but continue to use the handset I currently have.
I would appreciate all assistance on this.

We're not using Engin, we are with Iinet because it is easy. We don't need especial configured voip box, like Engin and other. YOu can use your own router. We are using cordless phone as well and yes, voip is cheap. 15c untimed everywhere in Australia. If you have a router with voip connector it's good, but if not then you need to buy a VOIP adoptor to plug into your router. What you need to do is to configure the voip settings and an account with your voip provider. Then, after that, start using it!

Well as for myself I have to admit I do not know all there is to do with computers either but I do know some things that I have learnt over the years. You can still keep your hand held phone ok and all that you would have to do is to connect with broadband this will not affect your phone at all.

I use Lingo, which is like Vonage ... I like it very much. Cheap and I can call anywhere in the US, canada and 20 countries in Europe (which is great for my wife whose family lives in France) unlimited
Anyway I know I can use VoIP only because I have cable. I am not really sure if it works with anything else
My voip provider sent us a "modem" that I plugged to my computer and then I plugged the phone cable to the "modem", it was evry easy and very fast. The quality is very good as well
I am very pleased with lingo
