As you guys would know that India is full of those Customer Support "Call Centers"....... and I have quite a few of my friends who are working in such Call centers. Not once.......... but, many times these people have been telling me a strange thing......... many calls that they take in a day are from people who are actually calling them just coz their calls are free........ just coz its a toll free number. They also said that some of the website / services they support........ also has an online Text-chat support........ but, people prefer to call....... just coz its free and more convenient for them to do it. Although, what these people tell me is.......... as per some online survey company's report....... if you use a text chat way of solving any of your problems........ its more likely that you will remember it better........ coz ur eyes read the lines....... and registers them in the brain...... You might forget some part of the discussion that u had with the Call Centre Agent..... over the phone...... but, that will not be the case if you "Text Chat" with an agent.

I know all too well about the call centers in India. (I lost my job because the company moved all the call center work over there. They don't have a single center in the states anymore.) I have worked in call centers most of my working career. I know how annoying it is for people to call the toll free numbers to ask dumb questions just because they are bored. It takes a lot of time away from the "actual" calls we need to take. Most of the time we have a lot of calls on hold so when something like this occurs it makes it difficult to get to people. And a lot of people complain about the wait times and such. Sorry for the little rant there forgive me?

Oh yes I am very aware of India having these customer support call centres ... and this is right that what you write down or type you will remember more than just talking about it over the phone.

I don´t have those toll free numbers here in my country or if they are I just am not aware of it, probably some of them are interesting but most of them I think aren´t.

No I have never dialed a toll free number for fun. I don't have time for that! Obviously these people who dial for fun have a lot of free time that they want to spend making jokes on others. Here in the US and also in Canada, it's free to call within the same city you live in. Thank God people don't do that here. I never received calls from people who just called because it's free to call.

That sunds very logical to me...I remember what I read a lot better than talking. Especially if it is something that I am trying to learn. reading I can go step by step, but talking I have to make them work at my pace and then I get confused if I miss something. But I seldom call for tech support anyway.
