On an average how many mails comes to the spam folder of your inbox in your email account? What is the general nature of those spams. How often you empty the spam folder? Do you have an option to stop them. In my case an average of ten mails reaches my spam folder daily. Most of them are promotional advertisements of Viagra. I used to delete them whenever I saw anything in the folder. I have no idea how to stop it. Please share your thoughts.

I have almost 10 email addresses, some I only use for posting online when they ask for an email address (have had a couple that have been closed for not being used because of being filled with spam). The one address can get a couple hundred spam messages, and as it also gets good messages I have found a program called MailWasher. There is a free version as well as the Pro version. If you are just going to filter one email address then the free version is enough. The pro version can do multiple addresses. What it does it lets you indicate what email is spam even before it is downloaded to the computer. The stuff you don't want is black listed and the stuff that is definitely good is whitelisted. The spammers keep changing addresses, and you have to check each time (especially in my case) but it's easier to check just the subject and address of an email rather then with to download a lot of unwanted junk. When you are done filtering you fire up your email program and it only downloads the ones you have allowed to go through. Again, the program I use is MailWasher, do a search and you will find it to see if it works for you.

My bulk mail folder averages about 100 emails a day. I empty it nearly every time I check my mail, which is at least once a day. Most of mine seem to be money making scams, or things I've "won". Wonder how that happened... I do get some dating things, and I'm happily married and never been to any of those sites, so I guess I'm on lists somewhere. I go through the folder to make sure nothing real slipped in there by mistake, but everything else just gets deleted. I've heard that if you respond to try to get them to take you off their list, that just confirms your address and they'll send you more. I definately don't need that!

The best way to ignore the unwanted ones is deleting. Unfortunately we don't have other options. Thank you for responding.

usually i would receive a lot of spam emails everyday.the average is more than 50 emails in a day.it is from the same sender.it quite annoying me.but i still need to open the spam folder to delete it one by one.it is because sometimes important emails do get in same folder as spam. so i do not want to take the risk of deleting spam emails.so i would check the folder before deleting the whole content.i am a ebay seller.so emails ar every important to me to receive orders from my buyers.but i do check my emails regularly each hour in a day. so as soon as i get the spam emails i would immediately delete it.if i do not check my emails everyday my spam folder will be full with over 100 emails.later on it is very hard for me to delete it since accumulated a lot.is there any way of stop receiving this spam emails??i cannot find the solutions until now. i am tired of deleting these spam emails everyday.so i wanna a best method to solve this.i know there is no use of registering new email as you will still receive it.i do have 2 yahoo mail accounts.but i am still receiving spam emails on both accounts.i think only yahoo can easily receives spam because on hotmail and gmail i did not receive any spam emails

Tell me about it! My yahoo mail box contains 9,882 unread messages. And I failed to open my mailbox in a span of just 3 months tops. I don't know where all of these are coming from. Worse, yahoo is always telling me I am guilty of spamming myself! I guess so email programming genius had somehow found a way to penetrate my mailbox with their software that automatically spams for them - and at my expense. I'm thinking of closing the account.

One way to reduce SPAM is to never use your email address in anything you post on the web. One way to avoid that is to use a free service like Contactify. They create a link for you to a contact box. You can be contacted without revealing your email address. Try it --- contactify dot com

sreevasu, i think, this is a common problem and we all would agree on one point that it's not fun getting a spam whatsoever. while we can't stop spams absolutely, we can atleast use a little of our brains, which, i am sure we have in plenty, and trash them. i have also made sure to check SPAMGUARD in settings of my mailbox. i donot register to sites and journals and give out details without actual need. we can even opt for a SPAMMER, which ensures spamguard. we need to be little more judicious on internet. i guess, that would take care of the rest. good luck!

Yes, Mimpi, it is not fun anyway. I agree with your point of more judicious on internet. And the additional information is valuable to everybody. One of the responder made a suggestion that giving your email ID in myLot is not safe. Thank you dear for responding.

yes, i really appreciate that response. we shouldn't let our emails to any and every site for that matter. i think, broadly, we should have two email accounts. one for important uses, which we should give to concerned ppl only and with the other we can satisfy our exploring and experimenting minds. hope you got my point.

I get around 10 to 15 spam messages a day, it's annoying. I do have a spam filter but sometimes important messages get thrown in there so I have to check it still. The spam that I'm receiving is always promoting some kind of pharmaceutical product.

Before deleting all you could check and trace the important ones by seeing the sender and the subject. Thank you Zandyne for responding.

I just kind of let them fill up my spam folder. As long as they don't filter into my inbox, I'm okay with it. I just empty out my spam mailbox once a month and that's it, no problem. I don't know how to stop them though. But as long as they go to your spam folder, that's alright. Just delete them all at once. Don't stress yourself about them. If it's eating up your mail memory (I'm not sure of this though. Does spam mail eat up memory? I use Gmail so there's a pretty big memory to eat up if it does) then delete it more often. Maybe once a week or so.

I get around 5 to 10 spams a day. Almost all of them are the "I have 100 million dollars in Africa I need help getting out." The nice thing is that they all have really strange names so it is easy for me to pick them out and trash them. On the other hand, maybe I have thrown away untold fortunes by not reading these emails.....

Spam well if the internet gave us the freedom to mail anyone anytime it also generated the garbage of spam! I have tried to avoid spam but the result is frankly quite fruitless. There is no way in this world I can avoid this but I did find one good method for this. I have a few mail ID's but I have one ID that I give only to friends and Government agencies and do not give out this ID even in emergencies to anyone else. I do not get any crap mails on this ID all the rest of the ID's are disposable and if the spam problem gets over the manageable propotion I just delete the ID and create a new one, like an amoeba that keeps changing its shape I keep changing my ID for some mailbox peace and freedom. I get all sorts of spams some of them that I can not even write about and then rest are charity, new products, generic medicines, online universities, etc etc. It is neverending but well I just flame the mail ( this is a term I use for marking the mail as spam ... yahoo has a flame icon to designate mails as spams)and go ahead doing whatever I was doing. Well that is me and thanks for asking

Well, I had written a whole long response, but myLot apparently lives in 1998 and can't figure out how to not log someone out for leaving the room for a minute. Goodie. Well, here's the gist of what I was saying: I used to get no spam in my Hotmail. Now, of course, this is no longer true. Yahoo gets the most spam with about 200 spam mails per day. Gmail does get spam every so often in the inbox. Of course, Hotmail is the worst because its spam filter is notorious for deleting your precious non-spam automated messages. Incidentally, the actual Spam-in-a-can (Some Parts Are Meat) supposedly helped fight Hitler. Another reason why copyright-infringing-slang is harmful to the environment? Go figure.
