I know for a fact that base on Anti-Virus Software Review edition 2007, the best Anti-Virus being listed is BitDefender http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ and I don't have anything to argue with that. But the question is how can you have it without spending money? Surely you will say, if its that good then manufacturer will not give if free indeed. So money wise and practically we have to find something else the could be near to its performance but you don't have to pay for it. That's where Active Virus Shield enters, you can say its no even it the top-ten list, yes its not. Then why I recommending this. Because it uses the engine of #2 best Anti-Virus in the list which is Kaspersky. This Anti-Virus is a project of AOL.com and give to the public for FREE. In my personal experience its far better that other free anti-virus like AVAST and AVG. I just want to share this because while browsing topic regarding free Anti-Virus, it seems that no one knows this valuable gift from AOL.com is existing and yo can get it for free no string attached. AOL will not even asked you to sign up in their site. link: http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp?

Hey this I will tell you is my personal experience regarding McAfee and AVS. In previous company that I worked, they using free AVG first and AVAST but because they still being bother by some viruses, their computer consultant sold them McAfee latest version for a worth of 8,000 pesos that is about $167. And just last Monday they called me because on of their computers hang up, so I visited them and investigated the cause. Its a virus that had not found by McAfee, then I replaced it by AVS and the 34 viruses that McAfee traced was accumulated to 95 viruses and worms being found by AVS. And when AVS treated the viruses their computer back to life again. I know its maybe different to other situation but I'm only saying about my personal experience and trying to help those who can't afford to buy expensive anti-virus like those who are living in poor countries.

That's why its definition is just anti-virus but you can partner it with other free stuffs to protect you from other intruders like Spyboot Search & Destroy. They run pretty well in good company. And that's free too, so why bother spending money over programs that can be own for free with almost the same performance compared to other commercial programs being sell by big companies? Actually base on my personal experience with this anti-virus its far better than AVAST considering that it doesn't cripple you memory, and more tough on virus that AVG and McAfee. Some virus and worms cannot detected by McAfee that cannot escape in AVS. While AVG see the virus but cannot delete it so I go for AVS.
