Do you want your child to refer to their private parts by their real names?

I have a friend who had taught her son to call his private by a food name. Is that healthy? Do you think he is going to regret that later in life? Just curious what everyones opinion is.

I wouldn't teach my son to call his body parts by anything other than what they are, especially a food name! He is 2 yrs old and knows what every body part of his is.

My mother always taught me to call your privates by the right name not all those made up names ... I have heared a lot of names though I do have a favorite one and it's a girls "cookies" - but I won't tell that to my daughter or son... I'll call it what it is ....

I think your friend would be better off teaching her child the real names for his body parts.

I agree and we try to tell her, she just won't listen. Thanks for your comment.

I am not sure a food name is the way I would go.

I think that they should use the correct word, or they will have hangups. My mother used stupid words, and I have difficulty saying the words now. It is very uncomfortable.

I don't really think it matters as long as they don't call it something nasty.

I think calling it by a name of a food is a little weird. They can always just say "pee pee" or "wee wee".

I wouldn't call them a food name. I just call it "pee pee" for my son because I wouldn't want him going to school saying you know what.

I always taught my kids the correct names for all of their body parts. After all, an arm is an arm, so why can't other parts be called by their actual names, too? And food names -- absolutely no!

I think giving them food names is not the best, youll confuse him later when he wants something and its the same name as his privates. willie and pippe are some .

I would prefer that my daugter call her private parts by their real names, I think it's better in the long run!

I'm not sure a food word is the best way to go. We don't use the proper terms, but pretty close.
