first impression...does it last?

do you believe that first impressions last? First impressions may be helpful in trying to understand an individual, especially new acquaintances as it gives us an index of their personality -- what they are, how they are and why they behave as such. Like, most of us Filipinos would say that persons who have slender fingers are good artists. Or when you see someone not smiling at all, you would say that she's a snob. would it be enough to measure up a person through the first impressions we give them?
