Do you know how often you should check tyre pressure and oil?

I didn't know this. The AA (one of the major car rescue/maintenance/information companies in the UK) recommends that you should check your car's tyre pressure and oil once a fortnight. Oh dear, yet another thing I must add to my Nag List lololol.

Hi Shelagh, yes this is right what the AA is saying in regars to checking your tyre pressure of your car, and also double check before going on any long trips for your safety and the safety of others in your car. xx

Yup, is always better to be safe than sorry. For those who think all this is just too much effort, you can literally save yourself thousands of pounds in preventing serious damage to your engine, just by ensuring that the water and oil are taken care of!

Yup, petal, YOU do that! You are not here every two weeks, unless you know something I don't and it really IS very easy, even for a blonde. Little tip though, take the car next to the flat so that if you drop any tops to things or anything you will be able to find them again. He would not have told you about this or asked if you did it, because he respects you, and even a blonde keeps their car running smoothly, grin.

Bring two weeks' supply of clothing and let Father in Law take the car to bits - you know he can!

Do they come rond and do that for you of should I still rely on my dad who does all that stuff for me. As I've said before I cannot get the bonnet catch undone on my ka for a girlie care the thing is way tough, lol.

No, lol, they do not come to you, they advise you in the hope that the car will not break down and they will not have to come to you :-) Watch what your Dad does, you never know when you might need to do it, I am a nag and honest it will save you hassle in the future if you know what to do. Let your DAD do it, just make sure you could if you had to. hugs

We're changing the Ka later this year so hopefully Shrek will show me on the Blingobuzz when he hands it over. He wants a van and apparently it makes more sense for me to have the Citreon Berlingo, we'll see. I do have a bit of and idea where things are but I'd take it down the garage and get them to do it with my petrol if I had to do it myself.

I used to check the fluids once a week, and the tires when I happened to remember to do that. It really depends on the vehicle and whether or not it leaks or otherwise uses oil or anything.

I can't drive either due to my illness, but I rely on my partner to drive my car for me. How do you manage to get around without the car, are you fit? I used to walk miles when I could, and I miss it so much.

As vehicles age, gaskets wear and tend to leak. This can result in the loss of certain fluids. You have to keep an eye on the fluid levels to ensure the you keep the levels topped off in order to ensure good operation. I can guarantee that I will never have car failure. I no longer own a car and never will again, as I have been unable to drive for about 5 years now.

Oops that's something I really should remember to do. I used to check mine every month or so, but then my car is due for its service soon, I expect I will get the lecture about car maintenance again then :-)

Escape the lecture, do it NOW! lol. Seriously, if you have a mobile or cell phone, you can programme it to give you a reminder. Wash over the glass of your lights at the same time, as mud can obsure and dim your lights, and check the water bottle for the window washer etc. If you keep the oil and water levels correctly you can extend the life of your car AND save yourself money on service costs, so it really is worth it. I am all for saving money!

LOL, the way you put it, I'm starting to feel bad. :) I know when to do my regular vehicle maintenance because my mom taught me starting with my first car. It was something I passed on to my daughter. When I couldn't convince her to purchase the repair book for her car when she moved out on her own, I felt the need to create a mini reminder book for her. The pages were full of the tips I had picked up as well as logs for milage and other maintenance lists. I sure hope she doesn't think of it as Mom's Nag Book, roflol. :D

That's easy, get her to sign up to find out what you are saying about her lol. Also, regularly tell her "I got that tip from mylot" until she wants to scream - she will want to join to get her own back lololol

GREAT! I wish all Moms and Dads could do that for their offspring. Nag or no nag it beats ending up stranded in the middle of nowhere, missing important interviews or paying out a fortune in repairs. What a smashing one you are!

LOL, she thinks I'm smarter than I am at car repairs though. Everytime she does have a rattle, squeal, or one of those "not quite right" sounds, she calls to see if I know what it is, lol. If it's happened to me before, I can usually help, but if not, out comes the family phone book for who she should call for the answer to this, that, or another question. It's a good thing she has uncles & cousins that work on their own cars and live close to her. :) Now if I could only get her to sign up here at mylot, maybe she could learn AND earn from her car maintenance issues, roflol. :D

Yup, and from what you told me your computer is hating you right back at the moment. Hope you get your own computer back really soon :-) Yes, you really should keep checking the levels as it helps to keep your vehicle running smoothly and can save you a lot of money in prevention of works being needed, honest :-)

Yes, I was under the impression that you should have oil and check your car tyre pressure once every two weeks. Some people tend to do it more often too, if they're going on long journeys or if their cars burn more oil than normal. Brightest Blessings, my friend.

Good for you! Spread the word, you know a lot of people. It really is so simple and avoids so much heartbrack (I meant heartbreak but when I was going to erase it I thought, no, good word lol)

To be honest with you I didn't know that. I don't check anything on my car except how much gas it has. My boyfriend takes care of all the maintenance on our vehicles. Before I got together with my boyfriend I always took my car in once a month to get the oil changed. When I got my oil change done they would check everything else for me.

To be equally honest, neither did I until I read it! My partner used to be in the army so every trip is like a wretched military campaign, but I thought the AA recommendation may help others. Glad you keep things checked though, it truly does save you cash, and obviously the better the car the safer the car.
