Do you know how long a caterpillar spends in its chrysalis?

I must admit that I thought that a caterpillar spent months in the chrysalis, but in fact it spends a mere two weeks before emerging as a beautiful butterfly or moth.
Unless it is a clothes moth and I catch it of course. Then it is not beautiful, regular readers of my posts, will understand this postscript!

Yes, well, you also know what the clothes moths have done to put me into seek and destroy mode! The end was very quick, I assure you.
I love butterflies too, and most moths, I am just OFF clothes moths. End of.

Well I have been seeking and destroying for a couple of weeks now so I have there is no more "my" clothes moth. I hope they are all wearing little white feathery wings and playing harps :-)

Wow... amazing Shelagh... I thought it was about nine weeks. I had a very strange moth in my home at the end of last summer. It was a strikingly pure white, with one little black dot on each wing. I never saw one like that before.
Brightest Blessings my friend and thank you for the information.

Yup, I thought they were in there for a heck of a lot longer than two weeks!
As to that moth, was it one of these, or do I still keep looking to identify it?

That is really interesting! I wouldn't go near the things, but we had stick insects at primary school, and that put me off things like that forever and ever. Oh yuk!
Did you have to do anything special to keep the caterpillars, special bedding or anything?
As to the clothes moth, I have sought and destroyed two so far. I am not a happy bunny. Other Half is still laughing himself silly though, sigh.
