Someone Tried to Scam me on my Amazon.com Sale!

I was selling my Minolta SLR camera through Amazon.com so I can save up some money to replace it with a digital version. It had been almost a month and I hadn't had anyone who had expressed interest till a couple of days ago. They e-mailed me through the Amazon.com site to inquire about it and somehow managed to send a bogus confirmation e-mail. The e-mail address didn't look quite rite because it wasn't from amazon.com it was from accountant.com and it didn't say "Sold, Ship Now!" like it usually did, it just said "Payment Confirmed". There were ads for Amazon throughout and the amazon logo at the bottom of the e-mail. I almost mailed my $200 camera yesterday without looking on the Amazon.com site to be sure that the sale was legit, my mom told me to check and be sure before I mailed it and sure enough, my item was not sold, there was no payment collected or anything. Beware you guys, there are some real jerks out there looking to steal your stuff and rip you off for money. A couple years ago I wouldn't have been cautious enough to catch this so you guys please be sure you are dealing with an earnest person before mailing your expensive items away for nothing. You can't get that stuff back. This is the first time I've experienced anything like this, have any of you had this happen before on Amazon, eBay or any other sites?

Oh my goodness! You are so lucky that you caught it before you sent out the camera. I have never ran into this sort of problem before. I am glad that you pointed it out to me though so that I can watch out for this in the future.

I have certainly been scammed on Ebay before, as well as the amazon used book list. People often say they are mailing the payment and then don't. That is why I only use paypal now. I've also payed for concert tickets that never arrived! That was so very upsetting. I'm glad you caught them before they got your camera!

I haven't sold much lately but I have been ripped off as a seller - mostly with people misrepresenting things. I can't believe that someone would stoop so low as to spoof an email to try and rip someone off like that.

I'm very sorry to hear that. My uncle had a similar problem but the other way round. He tried to bid for a plasma widescreen tv off ebay. He lost the bid but the seller gave him a second chance offer. The offer was for $200. My uncle paid the amount via paypal. He never got the tv instead he got a wholesale list. You should be cautious about selling or buying stuff from sites such as ebay or amazon.
