What movie scared you the most?

My favorite is the black & white version of "The Haunting" from 1963 with Julie Harris and Claire Bloom. I think that is, hands down, the scariest movie ever made. What movie scared you the most?

"The Blair Witch Project". I have only watched it once and now that I am thinking about it I don't think that I will sleep very well tonight. I am a wimp!

You know, I went to see that movie expecting to be scared silly because some of my friends said it scared them soooo bad. But it really didn't scare me. I feel kinda cheated. I wanted to be scared but it just didn't do it for me. Darn!

I did't think it was very scary til the last scene which gave me a chill straight down my back. I think what scares me the most about it is that you never see the "witch" and you imagination (mine is overactive) runs wild. And now I have to stop talking about this, it is dark out! :D

The Exorcist. No question about it. Nothing else has ever even come close. Of course, I was only maybe 12 or 13 when I saw it, but it still managed to scare me for years after that. I've seen it so many times now that it doesn't really bother me, even though the very concept is terribly frightening.

I never saw the exorcist. Considering the effect that the Haunting had on me, that one was out of the question.

Ethan, I never realized you were such a timid fellow. We need to get you into some scarey stuff and get you out of that. But don't want the 1963 Haunting until you've had plenty of exposure. LOL!

You know that movie scared the pants off me, too. I had already read the book and it was great, but it didn't scare me. After I saw the movie I had to leave the light on at night or I couldn't sleep. The scene where the mother goes up into the attic to check out the noises still sticks with me. That was good and scarey!

That is a truly excellent movie! I don't remember being scared except for a couple of scenes. That scene when the little boy is in his little tent and the ghost comes in and starts barfing - that was scary and gross at the same time. But I LOVED the entire movie!

I just loved everything about Signs. It was funny, creepy, had great aliens - it had everything! The Sixth Sense never scared me, but it was intriguing as hell. I couldn't wait to see what was going to be the point of it all and when I finally realized what was going on I was totally dumbfounded and impressed. Of course, when I watched it the 2nd, 3rd and 4th times it was totally obvious. But that first time around the surprise was perfect!

I thought that Signs was creepier... But I'm with PW... it takes a lot to scare me (if you don't count random loud sounds when I'm not expecting them and such). I just love horrors!

Oh, The Mummy that gave me nightmares was an old B&W one with Christopher Lee and Boris Karloff. There were a few other Mummy movies in my childhood that terrified me, too. The one with Brendan Frasier didn't scare me at all. It was fun and I loved it. I even have the DVDs of both movies. Great movies, great special effects, great mummy monsters!!!

I love vampires too!! The Mummy? Was there an older version of the Rachel Weiss/Brendan Frasier movie? Or was it a different movie altogether?

Chucky...When I was 6yrs old I had really bad nightmares....I still have them every now and then. When I am home alone I can't watch any scary movie or I'll be paranoid all night!

Yeah, The Ring is just an excellent movie. I enjoyed the 2nd one, too. But it didn't scare me like the 1st one did.

That was a great movie. And really scarey! I love scarey movies, too and it has to be really scarey to get a reaction from me - other than just the typical knee-jerk reaction from something happening suddenly.

LOL they say the 3rd one is gonna be the scariest yet. at the end of 1 and 2 i looked my fiance and said i bet they're gonna do another one, so i'm wondering if i'll say the same at the end of 3. sometimes you can just tell by the ending if there is gonna be another one.

Oh, amberbambers, you are a braver woman than I am. I just saw the preview for #3 for the 1st time tonight. Nope, nope. I'm too big a chicken for that one! LOL!

Has to be the hellraiser series just cos it's like a nightmare I used to have as a kid. Apart from that, yeah, the old black and whites are good to watch - especially the japanese ones!

I never saw the original version, but I'd say that the most scared that I've ever been in a movie theater was when I saw the Haunting with Catherine Zeta-Jones in the late 1990s. I'm getting a little tense just replying to this post even though I don't remember exactly why it was so scary. Please don't remind me.

LOL, Ethan! Well, the one scene in the 1990s version that really scared me good was the scene where there was all the knocking on the bedroom walls. I think it was scarier in the 1963 version, but it was still pretty darned scary in the new one. Oh, and the scene with the fireplace - now that was good - not the one where the guy got his head knocked off - the one where she 1st found all the bones in it. Yeah, I fogot about that one. It was scarey!

LOL! I was an odd kid, too. And every once in a while, when there's a big flock of birds in my back yard I think about that movie and get to feeling kinda creepy. It was a scarey movie!

I still get creeped out in the dark sometimes if for some reason I think about Omega Man lol. In my childhood home, I once woke up at maybe 11 am on a Saturday. I lazily rolled over and looked out my window on the second floor. Out of miles of telephone wire, the stretch JUST outside my window was the only one with birds. A couple hundred crows... as many as could fit on each wire. That creeped me out...

For some reason, "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" scared me. I still think about the story sometimes and it creeps me out and scares the puddin' out of me. Great question, by the way!

I don't think I've ever seen that one, although I have heard of it. That kind of movie scare me really bad, so I don't like to watch them alone. Maybe that's why I haven't seen it, cause I can't get anyone to come watch spooky movies with me. All my friends are bigger cowards than I am. LOL!

I am a big chicken. Seldom do I watch scary shows or movies, and if I do, I leave the room until it's safe to return. Then I make everyone mad asking them what happened. But one movie I did watch years ago, that still haunts me is "Jaws" all versions. I think life has plenty of scary events to keep me on edge. I'm not sure I can handle adding more on purpose:)

Oh Jellen, Jaws scared me so bad that, to this very day, I do not swim in the ocean. And I am a total beach creature - I just love it! But I don't go in any deeper than my ankles any more. I think the ghost and vampire and monster movies just take me out of the everyday world. That's good because the everyday world can be pretty darned scarey sometimes. But I just can't do the slasher movies. Those seem to possible to me. Tooooo scarey.

I agree, the original was much scarier than the new version. I think it was the atmosphere of the movie - kind of gloomy and mysterious.
