Cinco de Mayo is like an independence day and also a wonderful day that many celebrate. Here in my city we have dozens of Cinco de Mayo celebrations such as picnics in the park along with entertainment, and games for the kids. Families get together for BBQ's, there are fireworks and all sorts of fun things. Here, it's a very important holiday.

Originally and still celebrated today, Cinco de Mayo, is the Mixican independence day. It the day they freed themsleves from the oppresion of the the French. Big feasts and many other activities mark the holiday, which is the largest for the Mexican poplulation. I hope this helps. It's kind of similar to our 4th of July, although we as Americans have really gotten away from the traditional celebrations, forgoing it for picnics, a day off from work, and fireworkss.
