I Challenge YOU!

Have you met one person whom you are willing to consider as your worthy challenger. I did best in my class. A lot of people tell me that I'm the best programmer they have known. The same is true when I play my favorite arcade game Tekken. Some people call me "master". It really boosts your ego to know that you're just above the rest. But I do meet people who's more better than me at doing things - I meet programmers far more knowledgeable in their field and I do meet players that do excel in playing my game. So what do I say? To me, meeting my worthiest challenegers is a blessing because it helps me in improving myself at my craft. Sure, being called "master" by lesser mortals is good, but humility doesn't hurt that much to accept that you have been defeated by smeone else. I met a lot of friends while playing that Tekken game - and even those who have been defeating me were my good friends. The best games i had were with the best players, and even when i was defeated, i enjoyed the whole game. And I couldn't have developedmy skills in programming if i haven't met my own "masters" in the field as well. Have you met your match?

anyone who is good at anything has also learned from other people. When you think you are better than everyone else is when you stop learning, and when you stop learning you no longer are the best at anything.

yeah, you can only learn from people who's far better than you in the field, that's why it's a good thing to meet someone who's better than you. it also keeps the ego down and makes you remember where you came before.

Thats a good introspective you had in you. I treat anyone & everyone as a worthy challenger, until i can segregate who are those that just came to be a nuisance or annoyance, but even that can be just a ploy to determine your weakness as much as your strengths. By the way it's cool that you're a programmer. Its equally lucky for you that somehow you've met people that does make you felt challenged whatever the endeavor was, the feelings are just the same. More power to you.

I think everybody would have met their match in a lot of things, if you wouldn't you're pretty much simply keeping your eyes closed :P. But meeting your matches is a good thing, it is what makes you wanting to improve and become better.
