We have vinyl in most of our house, and will shortly be pulling the carpet out of bedrooms and replacing it with vinyl. I like being able to wash it often, to not have it stain, or pins and such to get caught in it. We prefer to have scatter type rugs that can be machine wash.

I actually have all three in my home. The kitchen and dining area are bamboo wood, both bathrooms are ceramic tile, and the rest of the house is carpet. They're all pretty easy to clean. The wood and tile are mop and dry, and the carpet gets vacuumed.

I have hardwood throughout my whole house and ceramic tile in the kitchen, dining room, both bathrooms, sunroom and entryway. The only place there is carpet is in my daughters room, and that's just because it is on an exposed lower level. The caramic tile seems to be the easiest to clean, but the carpet always looks cleaner. I loved the hardwood when we first moved in but now it is just a pain, It's impossible to get everything off of it like sand, etc...
