Things In This Life Which We Consider Must Haves

From the moment we got into school, we learned about man's basic needs to include food, shelter, clothing and now, they have added education to the list. Yet we all know that most of us cannot live by the basics alone.
We have some needs surpassing even these listed ones. For food, we want them not to be just foods, it is food that we like to eat. For shelter, it has to be a good, strong and comfortable abode. For clothing, that will go with our taste. As for education, we have to secure ourselves a course where we can excel and earn good.
Then, there are more defined needs soon after. For me, it will be a farm of suitable size, well developed before I get to be too old. Comfortable enough to live in, which can give enough income to see me through to life. Please share with me your must have targets in preparation for those old days soon to come.

It is true that the basic needs are food, shelter, clothing and education to be able to survive physically as a human and that differentaites us from other living animals. But society and the modern time dictates that it doesn't stop from there, but to strive to go to the next level of physical comfort, emotional, mental & pshychological capacity of each person. The basic needs differ in every person's background. For example, my parents, who grew up after the war, just wanted the basic needs of food, shelter, clothing and achieve to have good education for their children but weren't able to prepare for their retirement. The idea of "preparing for old age" wasn't available as they need to achieve the goals of the "basic needs" for themselves as well as their children.
From that, the children would want to ameliorate the conditions, in which, there would have better food, shelter, clothing and education for themselves & their upcoming children. Suffice to say, not only would I want to have better condition (better from my past) for me but also the whole family, that I would want to have a secured future for retirement & for my children as well. The goal is to have enough passive income so we don't need to work that much, so we can spent more time building relationships, for us (me & hubby), then the children & the future grandchildren.
The goal is to have enough to live thru the improved "basic needs" and also that we can dine-out every week whenever we want to, whereever, with everybody in the family, grandparents, my children (when all grown-up)and my children's children.

our oldies didn't bother to provide for their retirement days because, it was presuned that the children will take care of tem. now, this is not so. parents of today, are aware as to how difficult it is to be looking for sufficient funds to make the family live through comfortably.

I am a person that has taught my son well on separating his needs from his wants when he spends his money, and to also understand when something in its basic form is a need but when expanded can become a want. Much like a single man in a small apt. he has accomplished his need for housing. But when that same man goes and buys a mansion for himself, it is a want.

i can see your point, sailor. some of us never knows the bounds of contentment. it is good that you have taught your son this value in life. it is alright though, to work towards the pursuance of realization of some dreams which we have nurtured for a time, through honest ways.

i would say education must be a priority in life. once you get a degree everything follows. you will get a good job, earn good salary, save for your future and acquire the basic needs like food, clothing and housing. if all these are met while you are working then i guess, you are secured already. if you get married and have kids later then your focus would be on them. then the cycle repeats.

i know you're absolutely right! in my opinion, that happens because we wanna live our lives to the fullest, if we can have them then what's wrong with that, we just have to be thankful and take good care of them, but we can have just the basic ones and not as good as with the blessed ones, we just have to be contented or work hard, we need to live life to the fullest coz we can only live ones,we have to enjoy everything and always aim for the best.

it is good to be able to enjoy the things which we can afford to have. we work for it and plan for it then, we save for those which cost a little much more.

I must be older than alot in this discussion. My first must have that came to mind is not to leave any bills after I'm gone that my children would have to pay off. Also, I have preplaned and paid for my funneral. My husband has also. This way, it is the way we want it, and the kids don't have to worry about all the details at their time of grief (and they better be sad...LOL). We worried about living lone enough to see them off on their own and it be just my husband and me. That is our goal now. And maybe down the road, spoil my grandchildren.

I feel like you do my friend. The basics of food, shelter and clothing are needed, along with education. This has been since the beginning of the human race, and will continue to be so forever.
I work very hard to obtain these things.

It has now become such a big challenge for us to meet all these basic needs. it is true that we always exert our best efforts to be able to meet all our needs at its best levels. good luck in your undertakings, margieanneart, i hope that your efforts shall be met with much success.

yes, i can see that you are much too young to be thinking of the coming days of leading life easy. as for the computer and the cellphone, those are commodities which are must haves, indeed.
