Your stupid!

I apologise now as this is probably more of a rant than a discussion.
Did anyone notice the mistake in the title of this discussion? Yes, I typed your when I should have typed you're.
It really annoys me when people do this as it doesn't make any sense - if you abbreviate 'you are' it becomes you're; your means something else entirely.
Don't get me wrong, I can forgive people for making this mistake occasionally (generous aren't I lol) but sometimes I see it in newspapers, on posters, on signs and even in books.
People need to learn how to use apostrophes correctly - I'm forever seeing them stuck in when they're not needed (eg "the 60's") or being left out when they are needed (eg when 'and' is abbreviated to 'n' and an apostrophe is required before and after the N but people just put n' - where did the A go?)
Right, rant over (deep breath).

I have also seen this and probably sometimes even made the mistake myself, usually it is just a typo, but sometimes I have to admit that I just don“t know. English is not my first language so I am bound to make some mistakes and I only get happy when people point it out. I do belive that my english is fairly good - but it can always approve.

I can fully understand when it's someone's second language as English is a bit complex at times and I can even understand it with people who do have English as their first language (up to a point) - it's when I see it on something that's been professionally produced and probably proof-read a few times that it really bothers me.

LOL nit picky aren't we?? I do the your thing all the time. Its coz I'm lazy and don't want to add the apostrophe. Doesn't mean I don't know how lol. I just don't want too. When I use spell check of course it doesn't catch it because it thinks I mean your not You are. lol. So, if spell check doesn't catch it I really don't fret over it. If I was writing an article for a news paper or magazine article of course I would make sure it is right. But here on mylot I don't care lol

You can't really blame people on here for those little mistakes, people are writing quickly and it is still perfectly understandable. It is however unacceptable in a book or newspaper, these people are supposed to be professional writers. I personally have trouble with using there and their the wrong way round, just a sub-concious thing i can't seem to stop myself doing.
Their you go, those are my thoughts

You are right. Many times specially at the beginning i didn't know what was exactly ,your=you are,or your=yours....My first language not English and I did many mistakes to so I hope the others can understand me also.
By the way thanks for your English lesson, and sorry for my mistakes. It's third response of mine to your topics so I'm sure you'll find many mistakes.

Personally I feel this is being a bit picky. I think that there are alot of people here that dont write for a living and dont always know how to write correctly or even spell correctly. I know that I'm not perfect but I only have an 9th grade education and it really hasnt effected the means by which I earn a living. I understand what you mean when you see it in newspapers, magazines and books ect. The people that write and edit such articles should have the tools at their dispossal to catch and repair the mistakes before they reach us. Before I came to Mylot I very rarely had to type out anything and I never really learned how to type (just hunt and peck here), but I feel I do okay so please forgive my errors because I didnt stay in school long enough to learn any better (nor was I that interested when I was in school). Thanks, Terry.
