Well my question is about VBAC. My son was born by c-section because I was in labor for 22 hours and pushed for 1 1/2 hours and he wouldn't come out. He was 10 punds and 8 ounces. I wanted to know which is the best route VBAC or should I just have another c-section. Right after I recovered from having my son I said that I was just going to go for a planned c-section, but now the more I think about it I want to try for a VBAC. The only thing that scares me is if my next child is as big as my son was, and I go through labor and have to go for another c-section. I've heard that going through labor and it ending in a c-section can cause an infection from you dilating. Well give me your opinion on which you think is better. VBAC or planned c-section.

my first baby was an emergency c-section, when i got pregnant with my second child i wanted a vbac so bad, but the doctors in this town will not perform one, some areas will but some will not. so i ended up having a planned c-section and it was better that way i think. i knew when i was having her, it was better than the first time because i knew what to expect. if you attempt a vbac there is a chance of having a c-section even perhaps an emergency one, so i think it was better doing a planned c-sec in my opinion. hope that helps you :)

I have not experienced a VBAC but I have experienced a c-section and my doctor and I talked about it because I was really concerened of never being able to birth a child. Now, after having a c-section, personally I t hink I will go for another planned c-section rather then going through labor! But that's just me. My docotor said in most cases that you are able to do through a natural childbirth/VBAC after having a c-section. Just depending on how healthy you are/the baby ect. Talk to your GYN, they should be able to give you a good idea if you are going to need to plan a c-section or not! Best of luck!

I had a VBAC and I'm so glad I did!!! I was in labor for 25 hours with my first son, still not fully dialated, and his heartrate was starting to fluctuate too much for our comfort. He turned out to be nearly 10 lbs and I'm very small. When he was out they wouldn't let me hold him, nurse him, nothing at all! I was so upset! Then I had to go to the recovery room and was out for I don't know how long. The after affects of the meds had me vomiting horribly and I hurt sooo bad!!! My second delivery was nearly textbook perfect! All the checkpoint progressed along like clockwork, contractions, dialation, water broke, here comes another almost 10 lbs baby all in about 8 hours. You'd think that I'd be tired and need a little nap but I was alert and awake for the longest! I felt great and it gave me time to snuggle and nurse my new baby for awhile. What kind of cut did they do on you for your c-section? If it was one of those minimal cuts way down in your bikini area like mine there's a much better chance of a successful VBAC. It's when you have an emergency c-section where they have to just get you open asap resulting in a higher and bigger cut that the chances of rupture are more significant. I remember my mom had one and carried a very large scar in the middle of her belly! Go for it!! I thought it was sooo much better! And if things aren't going well then you still have the c-section option!

Hello monkey702, I can tell you now that I have been through both labour and then C-section. After the experience with C-section, I was determined to have a VBAC for my second child. So, I got into labour which lasted about 13 hours when I suddenly couldnt take the pain anymore and asked for C-section. It has been 10 years and I am ok. I suggest that you put the plan on hold first. I sure if you have another baby, the doctor will be able to tell you the size and weight of you baby, so you can decide then. If you are going to have another big baby, it is best if you opt for C-section.

In my opinion, I think you should do whats best for you and the baby, whether it be VBAC or labor. That's a decision that you and your ob/gyn will have to decide. Some mothers think that if their not actually going through the "pain" of labor, that they're failures. Not me... I hate pain. Good luck.

you can have vbac safely if your previous indication is no longer existent or if you have no more indication for cs

I've known a lot of women who have had succesful VBAC's. It really depends on your doctor, you might have to dig around to find one that will do this. There is a slight chance of uterine rupture and you probably can't get induced (pitocin) because it can make the contractions too strong and rupture this. Here's some interesting articles on this http://www.mothering.com/articles/pregnancy_birth/cesarean_vbac/rupture.html http://www.mothering.com/articles/pregnancy_birth/cesarean_vbac/sorry-state.html http://www.mothering.com/articles/pregnancy_birth/cesarean_vbac/success.html http://www.mothering.com/articles/pregnancy_birth/cesarean_vbac/birthing-again.html

The main concern with vbac is a ruptured uterus. I have had 3 c-sections and had really hoped to v=bac, I think natural is best if it is possible. As it turns out I have a malformed pelvic bone which would not permit passage of a normal sized baby (had no trouble delivering a 20 oz infant.) it is disappointing, but better to be safe. If you are healthy and there are no physical barriers to a natural birth I would suggest the natural. C sect, as you know is a very serious surgery and just adds more trauma to the body. They were afraid with me that the baby would descend and have no way to exit and would become wedged = then they would have to break my pelvic bone to be able to get him out via c sect and it would be a top to bottom incision.

I would encourage any woman to try for vbac. You have a very high chance of being about to have a normal birth, and of avoiding another major surgery. If you schedule a cesarean, you have zero chance of having a normal birth, and zero chance of avoiding surgery! It is not a given, or even a high chance that you will get an infection in labor. If you do, well, theres antibiotics right? I labored twice and had a cesarean twice and did not have any problem from laboring beforehand. They gave me antibiotics anyway, I think its protocol. I would not wish a cesarean on anyone. They suck. They suck even more when you have two kids to take care of. I wish you a healthy and happy vbac. =) http://vbacfacts.com/vbac/
