What are your thoughts on using animals for sports and entertainment such as in circuses, horse racing, fox hunting and bull fighting? What about the welfare of the animals involved?

I do not really agree with bull fighting.....but I do understand about horse racing...it benefits the animal in that they were breed for this purpose....the receive the best of care available; they live a good live for the most part...I realize that a few people do not treat them correctly but I also think that is a rare occassion.
I do not know that mcuh about the lifestyle of circus animals or fox hunting horses.....

Horse racing benefits the horse in that they were bred for that purpose?
Sure they've been bred to stand still for most of the day, then run like their lives depend on it for a few minutes, then repeat until they go lame. They've been bred for that for hundreds of years. But they've had MILLIONS of years of being bred to run freely on feilds 24/7 with the company of other horses.
In general, (nowadays) race horses are the worst treated of all horses.

Hard question as some response above, some games are OK like horse riding, but bull fighting should be abandoned. Huntering and fishing is another topic, since it is from them nature, is a kind of natural way. Bull fightering is different, because they already feed the bull for the last day to kill it for fun. That is an unhuman way.

This one is hard, because I agree to some and not to others, horse racing is ok becasue if the horses didnt want to do it they wouldnt, but I am appalled at bullfighting is so cruel, circuses are a dying comodity now, and the animals that they do have dont know any difference.

I disagree with cicruses, zoos and aguariums as i belive the animals are not happy or being mistreaated by being caged and fed on a schedule. Bull fightsing is just not right no matter how you look at it, as you know the animal is gonna be tourtured and evetually killed after a few hours. Hunting on the other hand I am OK with as i do it and there is more of a chance for the animal to get away or be spooked jsut as you are about to drop it. Also as a hunter i make sure the animal is taken with one shot clean and done. If i cannot get a good clean kill shot then i try to get better position or just do not shoot. I also use the meat to feed the family. There are hunters out there that give the sport a real bad name by woundign animals and not tracking them down to end the suffereing they caused.

I don't see anything wrong with horse racing. My grandmother bred standardbreds and thoroughbreds for harness and thoroughbred racing, so I've seen with my very own eyes how well race horses are treated, and in all honesty, they live for it, just like sled-dogs live to pull a sled.

The only uses I approve of for animals are ones they freely participate in, and enjoy (such as using a cat to hunt mice, or a dog for a pet) or for eating (and if they are for eating, they should be killed as humanely as possible).
Everything else is cruelty, to one degree or another.
