I agree and i was actually thinking about reading one of the holy books this morning. SO much of what others base their life on is foreign to me. So to understand them and myself i think it good to read them. Not in a religious sense but like you said for wisdom and philosophy to gain perspective. I am sure they are some truths in all of the books.. the question i am not ready to answer is under what name do i acknowledge truth. so far in life it has been only my own name or that of my society..some truths apply to all of us but in a time where there is much conflict i think it intuitive to look inward to bridge the gap.

I read only the Bible because only that contains the truth.

The four cycles of Irish mythology, particularly the Ulster Cycle and the Fenian. I'm also rather fond of the Norse Eddas, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Vedas. I really like to learn about a lot of different religions, hence my referencing more than one. My actual religion is Celtic Reconstructionist, hence my mentioning the books I did first. I have read many different holy books, but the Abrahamic one just leave me cold for some reason. Though I do rather like the New Testament, or at least the parts of it that have to do with Jesus, who said some really neat things.

I've read most of them and find this one to be a better explaination of how we got to be here than any others: Evolution: The Triumph of an Idea, by Carl Zimmer.
