Do you usually tip when you go out to eat? If yes how much do you usually tip?

My husband and I tip on service. If the service is good, they will get a tip, usually $1.00-$2.00. If the service is poor, which is the case in most of the restaurants here, then they get no tip at all.

I'm the same way. I'm open minded about service if I go on a night when the restaurant is busy. But, if there's only a small amount of people and we don't see our waitress the entire time we're there, she gets no tip.

We ALWAYS tip. Fifteen percent is the norm, and sometimes it's appropriate to tip better than that. My daughter works in a restaurant, and she tells me that some people are lousy tippers. She thinks they suck, and I think so too. Aren't the embarrassed, or are they just ignorant of our social customs?

We do tip. We usually leave $2-$3 no matter what the bill was. We can't afford much more. That started when it was just the two of us (or us and our oldest) eating and our bill was usually just under $20. 10% seemed okay to us. But now our bills are usually around $35 for the 5 of us to eat. More if we go to a nicer place (like a steak house). If service is really good we might leave up to $4 if we can afford it. Usually we don't go to those types of places when we can't even afford tips. We could never afford 20% though. That would be $7 which is the cost of two of the kids eating. We usually eat at buffets though and we sometimes forget to bring change in with us. I always feel so bad because it never fails we don't have any cash on us and we get the best waitress ever. I hate when family places have a mandatory tip (like IHOP has a 15% tip added to all groups over 5). It should be the dining parties desicion whether or not the waiter or waitress deserves 15%. We have been to IHOP many times where the waitress fills our drinks and never comes back. She then brings our food and we don't see her until the check comes and I have waited over 5 minutes just to get her attention to get a to-go tray. One time we ate there and all the kids had to use the bathroom so I took the girls and my husband took our son. When we got back they had cleared our table and took all the food we hadn't finished. Should we have given much of a tip in any of those circumstances?

Yes, even at fast food drive-ins. At least 18% at sit down restaurants.

I always leave at least 15%, more if the service is good. Sometimes more if the service is bad but I think the person needs something to cheer them up. I was a waitress for a very short time period as a teen-ager, and it is hard work!

I would have to agree with you on that. It is so easy NOT to tip the waitress, and if the service is bad enough, we will cut it back, depending on the circumstance, if the waitress seems to just not care.

It all depends on the service... if the service is crappy.. i will leave $1 or $2 .. if it is ok.. i go 10-15%... if it is good.. i go 20% if excellent.. depends on the bill but I will go about 22%

If the service is up to my expectation, I would normally tip but if I had to wait 1 hr for my food, i guess it would fair not to give any.

I tip no matter what, but if the service is good then I tend to tip more. I think that's how it should be no matter what. :)

I tip all the time when I go out. Being tho Im in a tip position I understand it more. I tip 20% all the time. But piss me off you might not get that. I provide good service to my custmers so when I go out I would like the same in return. But if I dont get it you dont 20%. I come out to enjoy myself not get rude service.

I work abroad and the money is 12 times what I make in my hometown, so each time I have to tip, though I am a generous person, it pinches! So 15% honestly is way off for me, I just leave 2-5 Dhs. (That's the curency in the UAE) But wherever I am, I don't just tip for the formality. If the service has been lousy, I will pointedly leave a tiny tip or none at all and vice versa. I would rather give that money to someone who looks very needy or to someone who is not used to receiving tips but is doing an excellent job (ex. cab driver, store assistant..etc.)

Depends on the service. I am usually a really good tipper, but If I have shi**y service they get shi**y tips... I have left one late a nickle...she was rude, did not check on us but once, and they it was like hurry up eat and get out... so it depends, but if you are nice to me I am very nice to you.

I don't tip at buffets.... what's the point. But when we dine at places that we are served, we normally tip about 10%. Which is what you are supposed to tip... but that's just us...
