A great use of the power button of your PC

I just found out about this great use of the power button of a computer: if you press and hold the power button for about two or three seconds, it instantly turns the computer of. But be careful, use this only when your computer is frozen and you can not shut it down the normal way (start/turn off computer). Do you have other tricks that help with computers?

Oh yes I have been using that for many years now I also have many tips in the way of our computers here is one for you if you need this one. If you have access to more than one computer (for example, one at work and another at home) and you'd like the same Favorites list on both of them, you can export your Favorites list as an HTML file and copy it to your second computer. To do this, pull down the File menu and choose Import and Export, step through the wizard and select Export, and then pick the Favorites file you want to export to and the file where you want it to go. You can send it to any drive on your system (including a floppy) or to any computer on your network.

As you say this has to be a last resort, because you are simply disconnecting the system much in the same way as if you had unplugged the computer. There is always a danger of corrupting files that are in use when stopping a computer in this way, which is why Windows will scan the hard drive when restarting.

this method of turning off the computer has to be your last resort coz it can corrupt your files and render your computer useless. thats why it has some delay before functioning to avoid accidental computer turn off.

Many tricks have warnings, I saw this and came because I know if you do this over and over again, soon the computer won't be able to restart because it needs to go through a shut down sequence to reset your settings and keep them for the next time you start up. The first time or second time it will be able to adjust to that but too many times and it leaves fragments of commands that will screw with the OS. Most of the tips and tricks I have are more along the line of little programs that do things I need. I am running a program that will update the clock automatically, another that keeps track of memory, one that will watch if anything takes over certain operating commands. Each program is small and may not take much space, but it does what it is made to do and makes my computer operation so much smoother. I think my favorite is Yankee Clipper, it saves all the clips like when I copy or cut something and move it from one place to another. It is great for filling in web pages, or for when doing some coding and I need a little snippet of code. I don't have to continually recopy stuff, and if I need a couple of pieces I can just move the piece I need to where I need to put it and then go back later or use other pieces. Mostly a convenience thing but it saves me time.
