The Nancy Drew series, was the books that inspired me to learn to read in the third grade when I was struggling with speech and reading. It's ironic that you post this question as my husband and I just had a conversation about Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys a few minutes ago.
I have a long list of childhood favorites , but the top ones are Charlotte's Web, Where the Red Fern Grows, and my first science fiction book was Red Planet. There are many others, mostly silly children's stories and later silly teen romance books, that I was reading when I was 10. Now my fav authors are Stephen KING (my hero) Anne Rice and Dean R Koontz. I read everything however.

Yes, I read lots & lots of Enid Blyton books. The Famous Five, etc.
Now my daughter loves them. They are often hard to borrow from a library, so we try to get them from second hand book shops.
I even bought an old Enid Blyton book from ebay.

I don't think I have heard of Enid Blyton. What were they about it? I have no problem borrowing Nancy Drew books from the Library but in the stores, all they have is the kind with the modern glossy covers .I like the older kind so I am tring to build them up from other sources and it's hard

The Enid Blyton books are set in the English countryside. They usually consist of about 5 children solving mysertoeries & local crime around their village.
They come in series.
I can think of the "Famous Five", but there are others.

I think my all time favorite child hood book is Where The Wild Things Are. I loved that book growing up and I still love it. My son loves it too. I think it is great to see todays kids reading all the books I grew up with . I also loved The Giving Tree. My son actually knows that one by heart and can tell it to you. He is only 4 so it makes me glad that he has taken such a beautiful story to heart.

Mine was from a real nice author named Judy Blume, who wrote a nice book called "Are You There God, It's Me Margaret" it helped me to prepare for the certain event. Another one that tops the list is "The Diary of Anne Frank" very compelling as well.

I always loved Nancy Drew. One of my friends at work let me borrow her daughter's "Message in a Haunted Mansion" Nancy Drew game. It is hard! I actually bought Nancy Drew #4 Mystery at Lilac Lodge for a friend's daughter's birthday. I remember it as a particular favorite because of the Blue Pipes.
I also loved Shel Silverstein's books. "Lafcadio the Lion" was a favorite.
I have read the whole Chronicles of Narnia series too.
The Beverley Cleary books and Judy Blume books are still very popular too.

Nancy Drew was my idol. What always surprised me is they they originally came out in the 1930's and yet Nancy Drew was such a strong female character. That just didn't happen back then.My two favorites are Mystery at Lilac Inn and Mystery at Larkspur Lane. I'm not sure about the title of the second one I listed. I am trying to build my Nancy Drew collection back up as i had to get rid of them to come down here.

I loved a book as a little kid called 'Robert The Red Rose Horse.' It was about a police horse that was allergic to red roses. Every time he got near red roses he sneezed this enormous sneeze and disaster followed. I don't know if it is still popular now, but it certainly stuck in my mind. I must have been about six or seven when it was my favourite!!!

I was SUCH a fan of Nancy Drew. I even read the mysteries that combined Nacy Drew with the Hardy Boys. When they made a new series out of Nancy Drew like 12 years ago, I was so happy. But they gave Nancy black hair, and no real storyline either. I also read Amelia Bedelia, but I haven't seen those in print. When I was really young, I used to read those Little Golden Books, which are collector's items now.

I hate it when they mess with the way a character was meant to be.We all know Nancy Drew was a strawberry blond. To answer your question from the other page,I have read Anne of Green Gables but don't remember too much about it.

The Earthsea Trilogy and the narnian Chronicles were both favourites. So much so that my grammar school librarian organized getting me the next one in each series and so on from other libraries so I would always have the next one waiting for me.
I shared them with my kids by reading them aloud. I was so thrilled when they came out on movie and they WEREN'T dissapointing. I was braced for the worst and happily surprised!

When I was in childhood, I mostly read classics such as Salinger and Vonnegut; of course, since they're classics, they're still going strong. I still reread Catcher in the Rye or Cat's Cradle every now and then. Unless you want to date far back to the days when I read Dr. Seuss; but then again, haven't we all read Dr. Seuss at one point?

Yeah, when I was a little girl, my parents bought me a complete set of MY BIBLE FRIENDS. One of the stories there is about Esther, the Brave Queen. I still have the complete set until now, and I still read Esther's story whenever I have time. My kids have also read the whole set. I actually cherish these books I grew up with.
