I have read in newspapers that somebody get fired because he admitted he is an atheist. This happened in Maine, USA. The question is, is this some sort of discrimination or the right things to do? Because I believe USA official motto is In God We Trust

Actually, it shouldn't matter WHO we trust! Freedom of religion without reprisals is supposed to be one of our inalienable rights as US citizens!! Constitutional Foul!!!!! I hope the person sues the snots out of this business. I could see, if the business is based on a specific religion, that they wouldn't want an atheist as a sales rep. -- but that needs to be determined BEFORE the person is hired (it may be illegal to discriminate at that point too). If they're just stocking shelves . . . who cares?

Unless he was working for a relious group I don't see how they can do that under our Constitiution. One cannot discriminate against one's personal beliefs and it sounds like that happened here. As to the expression "In God We Trust" it does not state what God that is. Nor does it state that everyone must believe in it. The Constitution states that no one can discrimate due to race or creed, this is far more important then just a phrase.

Yes I agree with you. Discriminations should not be allowed to exist in any forms. Yet it's not as easy as we thought.

Discrimination on any personal belief is wrong. unless ofcourse it is a psychotic belief.

I think it depends on the job, but in 99.99% of the jobs available I'd say this is clearly a form of discrimination.

I agree with you. But the problem is, USA official Motto is "In God We Trust". In my point of view, if I'm an American I have to uphold that motto.
