Published?

Is it possible to be a best selling novelist? - It seems like hard work, like there would be too much competition for the best selling spot. You compete with dead authors, living authors, and up and coming authors.

I would like to know if any of you are published and if so, do you live off of your earnings as a novelist? Or do you supplement it with other activities?

Heh, the writers in my country including me never get enough for a normal life.So they usually do something else and with a part of their money-sponsor their own books.

Bulgaria right? Did you ever try to sell to the US market? Translation rights and whatnot? There may be a lot of money in that. Or even film rights. I'm sure if you can find a good agent you can make a lot more money in other countries.

I am not published, but am working on a children's novel and am going to submit it within 1 1/2 months to several publishing companies. I was online reading last night and I heard the average salary for writers (including the popular ones like Stephen King and Toni Morrison to the obscure writer) is roughly $45,000. I say that you could probably make a decent income if you get good advances for your books, but most writers don't quit their day job from what I've heard. Happy writing!
