The fluorescent bulb is a solution. It may seem more expensive than the classic incandescent bulb, but the fluorescent bulb has a much longer life and it's much less energy consuming than the incandescent bulb, so, within a year (it's life is about 5 years), all costs will be recovered.

that's true, i've tried them now in our house. i also suggested that idea to my inlaws.the money we saved from electricity bills is now diverted to our food. we are all really happy now.

Buy products with the Energy Star logo on them. There are lightbulbs that use less than 1/3 of the electricity reular bulbs do, they just flicker a little when you first turn them on. What is a "ref"? I'm not sure how it would help since I don't know what it is. Also, if you use electric heat of cooling, make sure your windows are well insulated to avoid heat/air conditioning escaping.

I wouldn't turn off the fridge, but I would unplug the microwave, toaster oven, and other small appliances.

Dont turn the fridge off at all because that will use more power starting up each time. Just make sure that everything is turned off at the power point, if not in use, lamps, kettle, appliances etc...,dont have lights on when you are not in the room or you dont really need them on. Keep the house closed when you want it warm or open to let in the sun to warm it. Hope some of these work for you.
