Cell Phones and Driving

Are you in the habit of talking on a cell phone while you are driving? Or does this annoy you? when you see someone not paying attention to the road because they are on a cell? A lot of accidents are caused by this and could have easily been avoided if only the person was paying better attention to the road. A lot of times a bluetooth set might help or some hands-free device.

I have a bluetooth headset, and even then I rarely actually use it. I prefer to stop on the side of the road and answer the phone in a parking lot or parked on the curb rather than drive and talk. If I need directions, then I'll stop and call. I find it easier to get directions when stationary anyways... I hate people who talk on their cell phones and allow themselves to get distracted. I have seen people switch blindly into lanes and cut people off dangerously because they either did not see someone next to them in the next lane or because they were too busy talking on the phone to see their exit and then watch as they swerve 3 lanes just to not miss their exit. I think it's dangerous... in California, we will finally be required to use handless headsets when driving. It still doesn't always help, but it'll make some things better. It really does annoy me. I don't care about other drivers, I am worried about my own safety. I don't care if you get into an accident, to be frank, as long as you aren't endangering so many other people on the road. It causes an inability for those other drivers to pay attention and put everyone else on the road in danger.

Actually the hands free set also does not give much of a protection. Because you lose control of the car when you are immersed in your talking on the phone.

Most of the time I will take the call and then pull over to talk.

I am not a driver, but I would not get into a car with a driver who was talking on the phone and no giving his complete attention to the road. People have been killed because they were not paying attention to the road and I don't want to be one of them.

I don't like talking on the phone and I absolutely hate when other's are talking on the phone when driving. It's rather dangerous and I've almost been hit on several occasions by drivers that are too busy gossiping to care about what's going on in front of them. I really think talking while driving should be illegal. I've only done it on a handful of occasions and the call's where always brief. I made sure not to talk too long, or make a big deal out of it. I said I was driving, let that be it and hung up until I could take the call later.
