Yes, it is definitely harmful for your heart and blood pressure. My mom is heart patient and she is told not to have salt...just two grams every day.

Definitely salt, in excess, is harmful to the health. It aggravates blood pressure, which in turn can cause any thing from heart attack to paralysis. The blood circulating nerves may burst any where. Any thing can happen any time. My granny was bleeding through nose for high blood pressure.

Salt in small amounts is necessary for health but too much can be harmful, particularly for those who already have high blood pressure. A person's total daily salt intake should be under 2,400mg (slightly more than 1 tsp). Most people eat around 10gm of salt per day; it would benefit anyone to halve this amount. There is no need to cook different meals for one member of a household: everybody can benefit from reducing their salt intake.

A buildup of salt may cause the body to hold extra fluids in the blood and around the cells, which contributes to increased blood pressure and also excess weight gain from water. We should only eat between 1,000 and 3,000mg. of sodium a day.It is easy to go overboard. When a person eats too much salt,it builds up in the interstitial areas and the kidneys have to work extra hard to excrete it.

My father was told by his doctor to cut back on his salt intake because his blood pressure was becoming alarmingly high. He eats very healthy, but apparently was still eating too much salt. I stopped adding salt to my food more than 15 years ago, I just decided that my food was tasty enough. Even when my mother makes her homemade fries I refrain from adding salt and it helps me enjoy the taste of fresh fries much better.

Excess of everything is bad . if you take sugar in excess, it is also equally bad. if you are taking friend in excess it is also equally bad. it is good to take a balanced diet, a proper diet. I dont find anything harmful in salt......... what is salt............ it is nothing but sodium chloride........and it is vital constituent in all living creatures. it is essential in the nutritional and bodily processes of all of us including animals too. it is present in our body already. you can taste your tears , you can lick your hand, what you perspire , what comes out is salt......through the pores of your skin or through the tears in your eyes. this lost salt is replaced by the salt that we eat in adding in our food or by eating such vegetables or fruits which are having in it already.... it plays a very vital role in our body. if more of it results in high blood pressure than one should know that eat less or no.... will result in low blood pressure. to survive everyone needs to consume sodium regularly. without sufficient sodium youe senses would be dull and your nerves would not function. As with all things in life , moderation is sensible but there is no consensus that you should be concerned about salt consumption Alwayz remember , a healthy body uses only the salt it needs and disposes of the excess. so.... have a nice day and a nice salty spicy food. if you feel the salt was more than you wanted, drink a big glass of water after 20-25 minutes of the food you have eaten, it will flush, kidneys do their best work in flushing out the excess salt from the body. now, dont give an ear to all these comments or articles, if you have read it. journalist sometimes confuses people and blur them with certain roping of words which leads to misunderstanding among people. so enjoy a nice salty day ahead...................... :)

Eating too much salt is a significant risk factor in developing high blood pressure. Studies show that reducing salt in the diet can lower blood pressure within four weeks. Source : http://www.go-se.gov.uk/gose/news/newsarchive/salt/ Recommendation : eating no more than 6g of salt a day.

It's definitely harmful! Too much salt will make one thirsty but instead of looking for water, he will be looking for a soda. A lot of salt will definitely make your blood pressure higher eventually to a level that is fatal. It also causes kidney stones that may cause your tummy an unbearable pain if remained untreated.
