This discussion is related to earlier one about annimals, but amazingly I feel I'll get different points here, since plants seems to be more accepted in christianity, and this influences lots of answers. It is the case of the fig tree, that appears many times in the Bible, and in other traditions as well. It is also the case of the incense that is burnt on churches, I think it attire some methaphysics too. What other plants do you think that need to be added to this list? What are the most important in your tradition? Why does the church accept better methaphysics in plants than in annimals?

The Sesame tree was used in a parable to compare a man with a small faith. From a small seed a large tree grows such is faith, if its starts small it shall grow. The Vine or grapes is also a significant plant for it brings life, but it also symbolizes worldly things and indulgeance. For the people of the Philippines the Bamboo is significant, in our story of creation the first Filipinos were born from a large Bamboo stalk that was cut in half by Bathala (GOD) and there came out our version of adam and eve, Malakas (Strong) and Maganda (Beauty) In my tribe's beliefe the Balete tree (Fig tree or Banyan Tree) is the door way to the spirit world and it harbors within the tangle of its root malevolent spirits we call the enkanto. Sage is also a spiritual plant, its incorporated as the bush that burned in the apparition to Moses, and it is believed as a cleanser for the spirit in other faiths.

Yes there are many plants more acceptable than other in regards to Christianity, the apple tree is the main tree mentioned in the christian bible. And also the Palm Tree which is very important as we have Palm Sunday.

Ok, the apple tree actually is a misconception, since the correct original word is "fruit", but it has been translated as apple by mistake in some versions. We don't pay special attention to apples... But the with Palm you're right, and I was forgetting it, so thanks for remembering.

Mmmm cool, I also know many stories about palms, but what are yours? Where they come from? Africa? Caribean? Is there other places where plants are important?
