Do all your dishes, glasses, pans, etc. match?

Or are you like me with a mix n match set of everything? Even my silverware doesn't match as I have at least 3 different sets because I have a son that somehow manages to take them to friends houses with a plate of food! LOL I have 3 different sets of dishes and don't even begin to compare my pots and pans... they're a complete mix and match!
Does all of your stuff in your kitchen match or do you have a combination of many prints and patterns?

Yeah, once you fill the glass with Diet Pepsi and the plate with lasagna, who cares if underneath matches! LOL

Hi hockeygal4ever, hope all is well.
I like you have the same problem. Nothing in my kitchen matches. Everything seems to either be a different pattern or colour. One good thing though is that if I have friends over for supper and I use my "fancy dishes" they all match and so does the silverware. Everything else in my kitchen doesn't though, just that one set.

The classiest I have is a silver set given to me by my aunt when she passed on that is so unused that it would take me at least a month to clean them well enough to use I think! That's the only true "fancy dishes" I have.
When I have company, I joke that I pull out the "good dishes" when I pull out the styrofoam plates. (I can see the tree huggers passing out now! LOL)

I have been known to use paper plates to for company as well. Especially if their are quite a few people. Beats having to do a sink full of dishes too!

We have a joke in my house. Our silverware and dishes and glasses are "snowflake" pattern...in other words, not one matches another.
My mother bought me a nice set of stainless flatware and fine china for my first wedding that I use for holidays and nice meals. Then she felt sorry for us and bought us eight matching dinner plates for everyday use and a second set of less formal looking flatware. We still have a lot of odd pieces though.

By the time you can do that, you'll be too old to care anyways! LOL

I have my 12 place settings, silverware and china, which I brought from Germany 30 years ago and it is still intact. Probably because I only use it on special occasions. Everything else is a mishmash of everything from many years of leftovers from different sets of pot, pans, plates and silverware.

How wonderful to be able to bring something from your native country and keep it for special occasions. I am often quite envious of those who come from "other lands" and have a tie to them with certain ethnic dishes and special items they brought with them as they moved to another land.
I guess that's one of the non-benefits of being a born American with a bit of this and that for ethnics! LOL

I have 3 sets of pots and pans- Yes they are sets- but 3 different ones. I have a brand new set in the box still- I asked for it for Christmas- It’s time to make some of the other ones into camp pans- When I break out the new set- I’ll take the other old sets and put up.
I have 2 great sets of dishes- They are also sets- I couldn’t decide on what I wanted sunflowers or just green. I found a new set I want- hopefully will get them for Christmas!
Silverware- I have tons of this- I picked out a new set I want- Be nice to watching silverware but it doesn’t happen- Everyone in the house likes something different- so we have mixed silverware- and I don’t know where it goes either- It seems we are always loosing forks!

What I end up doing when I get new pans is keeping the ones I love and don't have a exact duplicate of in the new set or if they're not "that bad" so then I have mix and match anyways! LOL

I have a lil' bit of this and a lil' bit of that. We have 3 sets of dinner plates. My glassware is mix and match. My silverware drawer is filled, but with 6 of this and half a dozen of the other. As long as it is clean and useful, we are doing okay.

Yes, ours do, but only because they are new, when we moved in together we brought all new dishes and silverware and we started over from scratch, at first it sounded like so much fun, but now I miss the days of having everything I needed and then some.

And it's amazing when you have to do it all at once the number of things you don't even remember until you need them. That's happened with me when the kids and I left and got our own house. We pretty much had to start from scratch. Some things you just never even think of as not having because you had them all the time but when you go to use them, you realize "oops.. didn't buy that!" LOL

I have a bunch of different everything! I have two different sets of plates and mugs and bowls, and i got sippy cups, and plastic cups! and plastic bowls, baby bowls lol. NOTHING really maatches and i could care less.
As for pots and pans, I dont think i have a single pot or pan that matches to another one. But i did get rid or all the pots and pans that i don't use, cause if i only have one then i'm more likely to do the dishes RIGHT away cause i know that i need to have that pan or pot clean for the next thing i cook :)
It's a good method and plus i have more cupard space too!

I might just toss out everything but ONE pan, ONE fry pan and one place setting for each of us and hope the kids find that if they actually DO their dishes they can eat the next supper! LOL You gave me a brilliant idea.
Somehow I still think I'd be the one at the sink!

You mean they are supposed to match?? Never happens. Actually I just supplemented my dishes at a disney store and now have added some Nemo and Tinker Bell plates and cups to the collection.
If things match it looks to unreal...like a model home. real people don't match ( for the most part) so why should dishes?

When you first buy them or receive them as gifts, I guess they would match. But as the household gets more "established", it's hard for this to be the case. We have mini matches at most now.

That's pretty much me. Plus I pick up some extras of items, such as bowls (never have enough), glasses (always getting broken) and such that I have quite the potpourri of patterns now.

My pans are a mix of things I have collected over the years for whatever purpose I need at the time. Like, I have a spaghetti pot, a stock pot, a heavy bottomed pan for melting chocolate, and so on.
My dishes, on the other hand, for the most part do match. I used to get colours and patterns until I realised that if I got all white dishes, even if they are different shapes, they all still 'match' and can be interchanged.

NO.:)As a Chinese,I care less about the dishes, glasses, pans but my grandmother is a typical traditional Chinese people--she insists on useing the sets of tableware on table. These sets of tableware are fastidisiouly designed and all of tableware are matched. This is a huge generation gap between she and me.I can't understand why I cannot use the simple tableware on the table.Maybe for she,the fastidiously tableware is part of the whole dinner.

Most of my stuff matches - and I have a complete set of matching dishes that I have in boxes from my wedding.
I have mystery utensils though - my husband takes spoons or forks with him to work to eat his lunch, and sometimes comes home with a different spoon or fork - they have a kitchen at work, and there are spoons and forks, I just like to send him with one from home so that if he's in a rush, he doesn't have to wash anything, just put it back in the container and bring it home. It's just weird when he comes home with extra utensils, or different ones. I keep trying to send them back, but they keep reappearing.

I have both...I have everyday dishes that match and have cups and saucers, salad plates and dinner plates, soup bowls and bread plates...but then I also have a bunch of mixed and matched old china that I have collected and love to do the 'shabby chic' look with them.. I mix patterns and styles and love the look!!! My silverware is everyday and matches and my good silver is from my mom and grandma and mixes well together..that all said..my favorite look is the mix and match...it's quaint and sort of hip at the same time!! I mix up the glasses with different colors and sizes and all in all it looks okay!!! But since there are just the two of us eating here these days...I don't set the table as much as I used to ...but for lunches with friends or dinner when company is coming I mix it all up..for the holidays I use the tradional settings..I have no hard and fast rules about it all...I love crystal and have quite a collection of all different sized bowls to serve with..that's one of my favorite parts..I use the crystal serving bowls everyday..life is too uncertain and too short to save it for any special occasion!!! My tablecloths are fun and some are fancy...I mix those too...lots of patterns and prints...same with the napkins... I can make it look nice like my avatar from Thanksgiving...but usually like the "mix"....

I wished everything would match but that wont happen i got kids lol. I had a set of matching dishes and now some many are broken or lost. I am in the process of getting my small appliances like toaster, kettle, and coffee machines etc in the same color so maybe someday everything will match but i dont look for it to happen anytime to soon. lol

I don't think that I even know anyone who has a total matching set of anything, except for good china that is kept in the china cabinet and only comes out on holidays! My son is horrible about getting spoons to use as shovels, and my husband is bad about leaving things outside when he barbecues. So, no, I do not have a matching set of dishes, silverware, glasses or pots and pans. I do have the lids that match my pots and pans, but that is it.

No, we are also just like you. Here at our home, we really don't care about our dishes as long as we have something to use. And at times, they always got broken so it will be so much expensive if we always change our dishes every time something is broken.
