Colorado? Need advise for Summer trip

I need to take a super cheap vacation this summer. I don't know where to go in Colorado, but was thinking RMNP area. I don't want to drive the entire trip, so focus on just a few areas. Any suggestions on which towns or sites to narrow it down to? Any reasonable hotels? no camping please. We will fly into Denver and plan to stay about 8 days. Two kids 10/12.
