We've been offered a lab puppy (6 weeks old). Do they chew? How fast do they grow? What annoying habits might they have as babies? How much energy do they need to run off, etc. How are they around kids?

Shady and Caroline - Caroline fell asleep while hugging my buddy, Shady, rest his grand soul. Sure miss him and so does my daugher.
Labs are excellent dogs all around. They do love to chew and carry stuff around in their mouths so you would have to make sure your pup has plenty of chew toys handy and make sure he knows they are his/hers to chew on, not the shoes, furniture, etc. A crate would be a great thing to get for your new pup as well. He/she will whine alot at first which is normal for all pups till they get used to being away from their mom and siblings. A ticking clock will help settle him/her down for the night in it's crate. They are fast growers and tend to be lanky till their body catches up with their legs. Labs are full of energy that needs to be burned by running and playing or they will find other ways (trouble) to burn it off. A 1/2 hr. game of fetch helps alot. Get your pup fixed and make sure you enroll him/her in an obedience class. Listen to the instructor and continue training at home. An obedient Lab is a content Lab. They love kids and most will willing tolerate tail/ear pulling but still teach your kids not to do that. Wish I had a scanner cause the pic I have on my fridge is of my Lab and daugher in his crate. She was bout a year old in the pic. She crawled into his crate and climbed on top him like she was riding a pony. Shady looked like he was in seventh heaven with her. www.labs.com www.dogfancy.com couple links to check out about Labs. There are plenty more info on them in your local library and online. Good luck with your new pup as I'm sure you will have many years of enjoyment out of him/her. :-)
