I know this sounds like a really stupid discussion but i was working putting away wood for my dad yesterday and i really love the smell of wood. New lumber used in building smells so good too. I know when i smell it makes me think of when i was small and my dad used to work at the saw mill i used to wear his work jacket around the house cause i just loved the smell. Am i weird or does alot of others like this too it might be just what it makes me think about but it just smells so fresh and alive to me.

Wood does smell good, alot of people love the smell of cedar. Myself I do not like the smell of cedar but I love the smell of pine wood. I love the smell of fresh cut alpha hay. It smells so fresh and clean, like fresh rain. I cannnot stand the smell of a lot of perfumes, they get my sinuses acting up. I do like vanilla or some of the clean sents.

LOL I am allergic to that smell. LOL Acturally I am allergic to the chemicals that they use on the lumber. I cant get near the lumber aisle at Lowes. I begin to cough and my throat swells. I love to walk in the woods and that smell does not bother me. It seems to just be the chemical treated lumber.

Hi Kat, OH yes wood does smell nice so I do not think that this sounds like a stupid discussion. My adopted father was a building architect so you can imagine when I was a young girl I smelt a lot of new wood. So you see others do experience this as well.

I agree—a lot of smells remind me of my childhood- Wood – fresh and sawed reminds me of my gramps- He was always working on something in the old work shop- Didn’t have a lot of extra money so they always made gifts. I have beautiful writing desks, baby bunk beds, quilt rack, and a doll house that my gramps made me. He is gone now but that smell still takes me back to the old work shop with gramp. But I must say that cutting wood and throwing it in the basement for wood burning stoves is not a pleasant smell- Each time we throw a new load into the basement (when it is wet) it smells up the house for at least a day!

I love it too! I love to walk through the lumber section of the big hardware stores or to be around someone sawing wood. My dad used to work with wood in our garage when I was a kid. So maybe it IS the childhood association. I don't know. But I do love that fragrance.

Well, I am fairly weird so I can't tell you whether you ae weird or not but it sounds fine to me! I also love that smell, and even the smell wood makes when it is being cut witha power saw- it can almost smell like it is burning. Even the smell of small animal bedding, like shaving for hamsters or gerbils, is such a lovely smell.
