How do you feel about storms and severe weather?

I enjoy storms myself. When there is thunder, lighting and rain for some reason I feel a strange sense of calm and yet at the same time excitement. It's beautiful watching the lighting, and rain and cloud formations, and the coloring of the clouds as well if it's during the day, usually at dawn or sunset.
There is quite a bit of severe weather where I live, but it doesn't bother me that much even though I will occsionally lose power or have tree branches break and come down. I do live in Tornado Alley and there have been some close, yet still I do not worry too much. If it's my time to go then it's my time to go is how I look at it. For the record though, I do think earthquakes are much more fun to be in.
When ever there are storms, severe or otherwise it really does help to give you perspective in life, at least for me. It helps to show just little we are, and for all our technology we cannot predict not control the weather or the awesome devastation that can it can bring or leave in it's wake. I guess though one could also look up at the stars for those same feelings, but how often do we do that anymore?

I agree for the most part, although, I don't think I'd call earthquakes "fun." LOL
I also believe that when it's our it, it just is. When it's not it's not. God has a plan.
I also love to look at the stars and can actually see them where I live (as opposed to previously living in cities filled with smog).

I spent most of my formulative growing up in California so earthquakes were common and well, fun. Granted though I was never in any big ones.
When I moved away from L.A. and could actually see the stars, woah I know you're talking about. I still like to gaze at them when I have the time.

I live out in the country, and when you can see for miles, lightning looks awesome. When it's close, that's another story!

I enjoy a good thunderstorm; but tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, etc are frightening. They can be devastating and you can't get out of their way or avoid them.
I think the Weather Channel has brought that fact and fear into our lives. It used to be you would read something or hear about these disaster. Now you can actually see them as the are happening and you can see the aftermath. Reading about the tornadoes that destroyed the town in Kansas was one thing; but, actually seeing the devastation really "brings it home".
As long as we don't let that fear consume us; it is a good thing. People that might not have evacuated before, can now see what could have been them and they will be more likely to evacuate or be better prepared than in the past.

Very true. I also think it is good to see the potential so people will be encouraged to evacuate. I do think some of it is sensationalism, but the Weather Channel certainly does provide an important and valuable service. I believe the Weather Channel has prompted other television stations and newsrooms to provide better weather coverage as well. Local stations with up to the minute local weather can also make a difference when it comes to preventing casualties.
A healthy fear is a good thing but it is important not to become hysterical or frozen by fear. Great post.

I don't mind regular thunderstorms, but when a severe weather advisory comes into effect, I get really nervous and anxious, thinking of tornadoes and whatnot. I love snow, and everything having to do with snow, however. Blizzards, and all of that, granted I don't lose power.

I feel the same way. A typical storm is pretty cool, but severe weather isn't my thing at all, especially tornado warnings. I like snow, but I've seen some pretty serious winter storms and ice storms as well. Otherwise snow can be great fun, like you said IF there are no power outages.

I love storms, and yes I agree they can be fascinating, but there are times when storms can be a little to much to handle. This weekend we had a small tornado near our city, and we had a heck of a lot of rain.
When the weather gets severe, it's just too frightning, after what happend in Kansas with the tornado, I just get more and more afraid. Since for us in El Paso this was the first time we had a mini tornado, it made me feel even more scared, since we've never had one before.

That's my position as well. We had a tornado very nearby last year, which toppled a neighbor's home. We heard on the radio that a home on our road had been destroyed while we were driving home. Thankfully, no one was hurt but it was too close for comfort. It was a very tense ride home wondering what we might find. I'm glad we weren't there when it hit and I'm really glad my neighbors were not at home. They are doing well now.
I was always a little nervous when there were tornado watches and warnings, but I really pay attention to the weather now!

For my area our biggest threat is tornados and they do scare me. There have been some bad ones lately, and usually it doesn't bother me as the sirens go off quite a bit. But, with the really bads one there have been this year, I've become scared and am taking the warnings more seriously.

I definitely take severe weather warnings more seriously these days, especially tornado warnings. It's always better to safe. I have to admit I get scared at times too but I try not to let that fear overwhelm me. My faith helps bigtime.

honestly, i don't like any calamities wherein there are destructions of everything after but we cannot prevent this esp. if God will permit this to happen. all we have to do is to pray to stop whatever calamities may happen. sometimes this would teach us lessons to love and care the natures god's gift.
