Disappointing Night

Went fishing with a friend Sunday afternoon. Out on the ocean. Only had a couple of hours, local regs and our facilities meant that we had to be inshore before dark. Caught a small flathead and a shark then returned to the river a little down because of the lack of action. Fished the river 'til about 8.00pm, we caught a few cod and some whiting - then it happened, my friend whose boat we were in, was placing his new 'Ugly Stick' with its new overhead 'Shimano' into a rod-holder to move the boat. In the dark, he missed the rod-holder, let go the rod and with a hardly noticeable splash his new rod vanished into six meters of water. I know it happens like that sometimes, but we don't look forward to it. My friend has headed for Ebay to replace his rod and real. To anyone but a hardened fisherman this might end a beautiful relationship with water, fish, bait, darkness ... Has this happened to you? Tell us about it ...
