Where do you go to center yourself?

When I need to center myself, I go hiking. There is nothing that puts my life in perspective like standing in the woods. I realize how insignificant my life and problems are in relation to the world. I draw my strength from nature. So where do you go or what do you do to find your center?

Oddly enough, I go walking in the cemetery. Where I live there are no hiking trails or anything like that, so everyone goes to the cemetery and walks. It gives me time to clear my head and by looking at the headstones of people that have passed, you come to realize just how short life really is and that you shouldn't take it for granted.

Yes, a cemetery would remind you of how short time is. But I like reading old headstones so that doesn't work for me

I like nature walks, also. It does have a certain cleansing of the mind affect. I live in a small city and try to walk everyday through the city streets to clear my mind. Sometimes I will drive to our local park to walk the trails if the weather permits. The trails are wooded and situated on top of a hill. Very beautiful. A place where you can just be one with nature and leave your problems behind.

To me the stillness of nature helps me get to where I need to be. Thanks for the comment.

Very good question PackratsHouse. I don't have to go far. I turn inward, into my self and 'take stock' of what has taken me off center. Some people would call that meditation. I call it prayer. Like you I can easily remember how insignificant my problems are when I look around me and realize how fortunate I really am. I would venture to guess many of us draw some amount of strength from nature. I know when I go outside and see the green in things, or the colors of the nature it fills me with a certain peace. Again, making me realize the power behind it all.
