Hurricane Katrina $854 Million-Value of cash and oil contributions offered by U.S. allies following hurricanes Katrina and Rita. $40 Million-Amount used so far for diaster victims and reconstruction. Many of the aid offers were retracted, routed to private charities or rejected outright. Time Magazine May 2007 How does this make you feel?

I am surprised that you are surprised! In Jan 07, I heard a spokeman for the Red Cross admit that two years after the world gave $6B for victims of the Sunami in Thailand etc, only 40% of that money has been spent and only 16 homes have been completed for handover to victims. "Somebody is making money somewhere" Anyway, to answer your questions, how does it make me feel? Other than not surprised, it has stopped me from ever giving money to organized charities again. In future, if I can help an individual or group, I will give them the money personally. People making money from other's misfortune....there is a circle in hell for them.

I am not so much shocked as I am sad. What shocks me is that no one is doing or can do anything to stop this kind of madness. And then people want to look at me funny when I say that I hate being an American. I don't even understand the term "United States." To me, if we are so united, then we should not be cheating each other out of the help that they need. I guess I am just a dreamer, but my definition of the "United States," would be to help everyone to own a home, and have affordable health coverage, as long as they are willing to work hard. It seems to me that everyone born in America should have the chance to experience the American dream if they are willing to work and contribute to society. But it is hard to get ahead in America by being an honest law abiding citizen. Everyone has a gimmick or a scheme.

If we will count every problem that every countries in this world have... It will surely makes us sick and really depressing. We should look at the problems more positively and find for solutions than doing nothing and just thinking and thinking of it only without doing anything. Have a nice day ahead from Francis.

Ridiculous, the money was meant for the hurricane victims so that is where it should be actually used for. Apparently it is to be done on budget mode instead, let's place some wooden house back for it.

who was collecting the contribution by the people? the government? and they gave it to private charities? well that would juss make me really mad bcuz ppl donated the money for the hurricane victims and yet not even half of the money is spented on them I think this should really be told to everyone else bcuz some ppl still don't know about this. Because i personally just found out from this thread so i wouldn't have known if you didn't make this thread Someone should really tell ppl if they're gonna donate something, they should donate it first hand
