We are very nostalgic and I love antiques. We use to have our freezer filled with those colored plastic ice trays but I often noticed an odor from them after using them for a long while.
We searched for the old fashioned metal ice trays and found a few at flea markets and antique stores. I had no idea they were so pricey. They are very hard to find but they last forever. You can use them without being concerned about the odor left in plastic.
Do you use metal or plastic ice trays?

wow, you too me back. back to the day my brother use to dare me to put my tongue on the tray! it was always so hard to get the ice out of those trays. you would have to pull tha metal thing up and then the ice would go all over. give me plastic any day

You are supposed to run warm water over the top and bottom until the metal pull releases. Then you just pop the ice out. It all comes out very easily and you don't have that funny taste on your ice cubes.
But then again, it's the nostalgia that goes along with the antique side of it I guess.
I saved the plastic ones and use them to keep screws and things seperated in the tool shed. They come in handy when you want to get organized.
