This is a very interesting mystery, in my opinion. You can read the few pages that scholars actually have from this Apocryphus Gospel in http://www.gnosis.org/library/marygosp.htm
There are many questions to discuss about on it. Of course, first is the things she talks about: her personal relation with Jesus and her designment as head of the christian community instead of Peter. So who is she? Is she really Mary Magdalene? Why is she called Mariam? If she or whoever the actual author was lying, who could trust on it? What should be the purpose?
Secondly, is what scholars say about it. It is supposed to be a Gnostic text, but I don't find it related to other gnostic texts: it has not the same language nor the same targets. It is supposed to have Tao and Buddhist influences, what are this? What would Taoists and Buddhists think of it?
Thirdly, is the things deducted from other related researchs: some say it is a prouve that she was Jesus' spouse. Also I have heard she was very influent in the early christian community, and perhaps she influenced John somehow when writing the Revelations, and that could explain why this Book, althought Canonic, is so strange and has a different language, similar to her Gospel. Also it could help on the meaning of the two women that appear in this book, on whom I made several discussions here in mylot.
What do you think about all this?

Well, that is just so interesting. I haven't read much into this before. But, I think it is something to think about.
