My elderly friend is so sad that her children have virtually abandoned her. She is 86 years old, and lives alone in her ancestral village home. She has four children working in different parts of the world. They seem to neglct her like anything. They don't even pay her a yearly visit. Last Christmas, she was hoping against hope that her younger son would pay her a surprise visit, but he didn't. Now she talks about suicide. He health has deteriorated and it has become an issue of daily toild for her to keep breathing. She talks to me in the evenings, as I stop by her house while walking. I do not know what to do about this situation. From her behavious, I feel she is suffering from depression and may attempt suicide soon. I have told her family doctor about this, but he doesn't seem to bother. I feel I should help her in some way, but can death be an answer to her miseries at this moment, and shall I just be extending her sufferings if I help her? What do you feel?

That is a tough situation. I think that I would continue to visit her if you can. She just seems to need to know that someone cares about her. That is all anyone wants is to know that someone cares and loves them.
