What to look for, in a new laptop computer?

I'm going to be in the market for a new laptop computer pretty soon, and I know nothing about them. I used to know a few things about desktop computers, but not so much these days. I'm going to need a laptop computer primarily for A LOT of internet and web browsing, writing (MS Office software is going to be a necessity), and some games, but not a whole lot. So my question is this: What kind of things should I be looking for in a laptop computer? Not just a 'fast processor', or things like that, but what kind of processor? What speeds? What specific drivers? Cards? Whatever else I need to know?

Battery time. If a single core cpu an AMD turion otherwise intel duo core. Memory at least 1GB, preferably 2 these days. Weight, size. Probably don't want it too big because hard to travel around but most likely also not too small due to low resolution. Pre-installed OS and other software optionally if you need. I'd say that is pretty good to look out for when buying a laptop, the exact speeds of the cpu's won't matter that much since you're not a gamer but still it will open some possibilities with those cards, especially the duo core. Graphics card I'd say take something with 256MB at least, just because graphics memory is being used by more and more asides from just games these days. I can also recommend to buy a laptop with a tray DVD drive, rather than a tray-less where you just shove the DVD in, with trays are better in angles so it won't damage the disc when you hold it on our lap.

I was just flipping through a Dell catalog that was laying on my counter and saw a few laptops with Intel Core Duo 2 Processor T5600. Does the T5600 mean anything, or is that just the standard duo core 2 intel has out? Also, what is shared dual channel? Most of these laptops say they have 1 GB shared dual channel and either 80 or 120 GB hard drive.
