Simple quilt blocks and small pieces. Everyone rips seams out. Iron. Look into strip quilting.

My mum makes them.
I don't, she's been shown by her family and past generations. There's also a family blanket which is very long now that has pictures of each women in my family's history (mothers side).
Well not everyone but everyone from when it was started and kept between mum to daughter

I live in Pennsylvania where the Amish make some of the most beautiful quilts in the country. For them the tradition is passed down. But I've seen a number of books that seem to give step by step instructions. I only had one friend who made quilts and she took a night class at a high school near where she lived. Her quilts were lovely so she must have had a good instructer. I think some churches also have group quilting. Maybe you could look into that. Whatever you do, I'm sure it will work out and I wish you luck. Post a picture of your first quilt on Mylot, okay?

I am also a beginner quilter, though have lots of experience sewing other things. I'm really excited about making my first one soon. I bought myself a cutting mat and rotary cutter (I don't know how I've lived this long without those!) So it looks pretty easy. My advice is to read, read, read. There are books out there on quilts, how to do the bindings, etc. Also check with some of your local stores and night classes at local high schools for beginning quilting classes. Though I can sew really well, I'm sure I'll get a lot of short cuts and tips about quilt making that I don't know about. Good luck!
