I hate poisin ivy! And apparently I don't know what it looks like (or didn't until just now, when I looked up pictures) because when I did gardening on Monday I must have gotten into some, I am itchy all over and breaking out in these little blisters full of fluid that come open when I scratch (yeah, how gross is that??). It sucks, I hate it so much, I'm so miserable, it's even on my fingers, well, mostly my arms, my fingers and my face. How do you get rid of poison ivy, what's the best way to make the itching going away?

The old tried and true method is epson salts . You bathe the affected areas with a tablespoon of epson salts disolved in a cup of warm water. just dab it on with cotton balls 3 or 4 times a day, It takes a few days for it to dry up though, so be sure to wear light coloured clothes. OR, you could go to the doctor and get some cream (and a shot if its really bad). My brother an I used to get this every single summer when we were growing up, even though we were careful to stay away from it. The doctor said we were allergic to the pollen even. He got a shot when he joined the armed forces and never got it again. I seem to be just over the allergy to it.

My fiance never gets it either for some reason, I'm so jealous - I barely touch it and I'm all broken out! I got some Zanfel but you have to put it on with water (so it's like a paste) for 15 minutes, I have to do it in the bath - I'll try that Epson salt thing though.

DON'TSTOP USING THE ZANFEL!!!!!its probably better than the epson salts. Try using the salts between thezanfel applications just to dry up the secretions.

Thanks for the tips! I put some on last night and I feel a little less itchy overall but it's spread to more parts now since I was scratching. Hopefully it will just go away soon *pout*

All I can say is calamine lotion. That is what the doctor told me to put on it. I also took some Benydryl tablets to help with the itch too. Also take an oatmeal bath. Aveeno has oatmeal bath packets you could use to buy at wal-mart. I hope that you get better soon.

Well I hate poisin ivy.I get it alot, It is growing some playce in my yard too, I have hedges growing all along the front of my house. I must trim them every two weeks. Two sections are o.k. but one is about 7 feet tall. I am only 5'1"There is poison ivy or poison oak somewhere in these hedges.Because I will usualy get it somewhere on my arms, usually in the bend of my elbows I will sometimes dilute bleach and put it on it at first, then I use calamine lotion. You can also get benydryle tablets to help with the itch.
