Despair transforms someone faster than love, eh?

I love this quote from Mr. Paulo Coelho himself: "A writer once said that it is not time that changes man, nor knowledge; the only thing that can change someone's mind is LOVE. What nonsense! The person who wrote that clearly knew only one side of the coin. Love was undoubtedly one of the things capable of changing a person's whole life, from one moment to the next. But there was the other side of the coin, the second thing that could make a human being take a totally different course from the one he/she had planned; & that was called DESPAIR. Yes, perhaps love really could transform someone, but despair did the job more quickly." Such a brilliant thought from a brilliant writer, right? Paulo Coelho is indeed a guy overflowing with fresh and new thoughts!

I see both sides of the coin. In order to fully understand and appreciate love, one needs to learn what despair, hate, and lack of love, feel like... So they when they are loved again will appreciate it more... Both can change a mind, but love is very very powerful... so I do not see that as nonsense, as love at times will work when all other reasoning has failed. - DNatureofDTrain

Yeah, those lines were from the best selling novel itself, The Alchemist. I love that book. I was actually planning to buy The Zahir also but I haven't had time. I'm not sure but if The Alchemist is about pursuing his dreams, I think of The Zahir as the pursuit of happiness? Am I right?
