LOST: Jacob's debut! (spoilerish!)

Did anyone absolutely love LOST as much as I did last night??? Now we can start to figure out so many things, like: -Why everyone in flashbacks are specifically shown with the appropriate aging, but that guy that looks like he wears eyeliner has been around since Ben was a kid ("original inhabitant; hostile"), now Ben's follower (name: Alpert), and still looks the same age as then. -When Jacob talked to Locke, Ben obviously couldn't hear it. That means Jacob controls who hears him and sees him, to an extent..? -Also on that note, Ben was EXTREMELY jealous when he found out that Jacob asked for Locke's help! Anyone else have anything to add? My fiancee said he saw a glimpse of someone in that chair, but I didn't.

I too saw a glimpse of someone in the chair, but he was there only for a second and then gone. This story line is getting even more freaky. Although I will be sad to see it end, I will be happy to know what the heck is going on.

I saw someone in the chair, it was kinda freaky! Maybe Ben is somehow keeping him captive? The ring of black dust/soot or whatever it was reminded me of the stuff they do on Supernatural, so maybe Jacob is some kind of spirit that Ben is using for his own purposes? Ben did seem very jealous that Jacob spoke to Locke, perhaps he is usually the only one who can see or hear Jacob and now he doesn't feel so special. I also noticed that guy Richard who looked the same age, maybe they thought by giving him long hair we might think he was younger? lol Perhaps now he is just better dressed as they have to go and recruit people to come to the island whereas before they didn't. The original 'hostiles' all seem to talk about him bringing them there (assuming they mean Jacob), so maybe now that Ben has taken over and somehow has control over Jacob they actually have to leave the island to get more people. Especially since noone is able to carry a pregnancy to fullterm, although that could be do to Ben's presence, as others have theorised that perhaps he is subconciously killing them in regards to guilt over his mother. I'm glad they answered a few questions about where the Dharma Initaitive came from though. But did they mention what they were actually trying to acheive on the island? If they did I think I missed it!

There's also been mention of the similarity of that powder to the movie Skeleton Key, which used it to ward off spirits, I think (?). Don't remember exactly what DHARMA was there for but I do know they were peaceful people, until of course the hostiles wanted to get rowdy.

On a fan site I saw some screen captures that showed a figure who is supposedly Jacob. Apparently it's one of those things that's only in a few frames; you wouldn't see it unless you viewed it slowly on Tivo or something.

i watched the episode on ABC's website after I saw those screen caps and saw the man. My fiancee saw the man first time around, but I didn't believe him. I don't believe it's "future Locke" in another time-realm type thing, like some people are theorizing.

Does anyone have a screen shot of Jacob inb the chair? I didn't catch that but would love to get a look! I loved the episode as well, especially the glimpse into young Ben's life which now explains WHY he is so twisted. I actually felt sorry for him, especially when he was crying for his mother on his birthday. Poor Ben!

The man behind the curtin(jacob) just aired here in australia last night. I was so intrigued by this episode...I can't help but think there may be a conection with desmond there too??? (maybe the hair)??? The glkimpse of the eye got me too..... I think Jacob must be like god a(spirit)that no-one can see or hear but somebody special..... I think locke is there to save him from Ben... Wow Lost gets so much more intriging, I want answers but then the series would end, if we had all of them...

I have no idea who Jacob is. It depends on where the Island really is. It could be that the Island is in a different dimension that overlaps our reality, and that there are two different timelines - ours in which we age and Jacob's in which he ages slower. It would be 2004 for the Losties and the Others such as Ben, but with Jacob and the original Others, the time might be a few months after they first arrived. So supposing Jacob and his gang landed in 1970, it would still be 1970 plus a few months for them. This would mean that if someone lands on the Island in 2010, they would be unable to see Jacob's group, Ben's group or Jack's group. This might mean that everytime the sky flashes, the time opens for another group to come to the Island and that the people (unless they are given special insite such as Ben) would be unable to see who was on a different timeline. It could mean that Jacob had to use all his mental power to say, "help me" to Locke. He was trapped in his original time line and could not move forward.

I loved this episode too! So much happened. I wondered about "Alpert" too. He hasn't seemed to have aged at all since Ben was a kid. Hmmm. I'm sure we'll find out more on that later.
